Two New Zombie Releases!
OK. I think I've been screwed over yet once again. I just bought the new Blue Underground DVD release of Lucio Fulci's "Zombie". The transfer is an absolute revelation. Even though there are virtually no extras, the print alone is worth the price. Suprisingly, I had heard that it was being released on 7/27, but I found it a couple days earlier. NOW, I hear that Media Blasters is release a double DVD jam packed anniversary edition extravaganza on July 27 also. Now of course I have to buy that one too. Damn. They got me again. Apparently I heard that both production companies made a deal, because Media Blasters originally had access to the awesome print. Blue Underground got them to share the print under the following condition: Media Blasters gets to release it with all the extras, and Blue Underground could only release a single DVD version with no extras. Now, I'm sorta hoping the Media Blasters print is not as good, so I could justify having spent the extra $$ to get both. At any rate, I consider my money spent on a good cause. Just wait till you see this new print. Unbelievable. The color was all washed out on the Anchor Bay version. By any chance, has anyone seen the Media Blasters version?

I'm surprised you didn't know about the SS version, since they had been getting the DVD together for almost a year now. I don't see why anyone would buy both, just seems like a waste of cash to me. I haven't seen either version yet. Since the Shriek Show disc is getting some pushbacks yet again, I might just get the BU version and call it a day.

Picked up the BLUE UNDERGROUND release Friday and the print is amazing (save for the end credits).
One question: has anyone come across the easter egg trailers? I am either going blinnd or they are hidden too well. |

How much is the Blue Underground going for? Strange how the SS version has no reviews available on the net.....though they used the same print, I wonder how good the SS transfer is.

The screen title is ZOMBIE. Oddly, the actual end credits are from another (lower quality) source. Normally I would be angry (ala SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT), but it is only a quick 30 seconds of credits and a small trade off for the amazing print before it.

Why blame anyone? If you don't like it don't post in the thread and keep bumping it up.
oops I did it now. See what you made me do?

I'm actually getting both copies of this film - so...I don't really have a problem with double-releasing this one.

I was at Best Buy today. Saw BU's Zombie disc, but not the SS disc. My mom ended up buying me the BU disc, saying it was a late reward for the good grades on my last report card. I'm still not sure if I'll buy the SS one now, but since I didn't pay for the BU disc, we'll see.

They both got some +'s:
-The Media blaster version got all the extras, but only with a stereo soundtrack. -The Blue underground version got the best picture with a 5.1 soround soundtrack.

I have the Italian Shock Release and don't plan to double dip because the print is fine, it's uncut and it has the cool soundtrack extra.
But boy does that BU cover rock!! The IS cover stinks!! Can any of you guys who have bought the BU version make me a high definition scan of that, in order to replace my shitty IS cover? I would be very very thankful for that!! PM me or something if you're willing to help me out. And thanks in advance!! |

If the SS version only has the stereo track, then I don't think I'll be getting it. I guess I don't like the film enough to own three DVD's of it. (I already had AB's DVD, and now the BU disc)
