They do look pretty bad. I'll check 'em out though. Cemetery Gates looks the cheesiest of the two AND it has Reggie Bannister. Besides Angus, he was my fave in the Phantasm movies.

That's the problem though. It's bad funny, not good funny.

I rented Boo! last night and really enjoyed it. It's a step above the usual DTV fare and actually is a professional looking film. I found the plot to be somewhat original, and the haunted 'Asylum' they used worked quite well. And the entire 70's-Blaxploitation-star-turned-Cop angle was great.

It's almost one of those films that you need to see more than once to take it all in...it's definitely not a boring film to watch. I might end up and buy the DVD, looks like it was pretty packed with deleted/extended scenes, commentary, featurettes, etc.

DVD Madness: Hostel, Necropolis, Cemetery Gates and more

Quote:
Today a whole bunch of DVD news hit the web, so we figured we'd jam it all into one post to save some front page space. Today Sony Home Entertainment's DVD release of Hostel was officially announced for April 18th; the mega cheesy gore-fest Cemetery Gates is finally getting a release on May 30th through Ventura Distribution; and Lionsgate has picked up home video rights to Return of the Living Dead: Necroplis (April 18) and The Nun (April 25). Read on for more details...

Fangoria writes: RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD: NECROPOLIS, the first of the two back-to-back in-name-only sequels that premiered on the Sci Fi Channel last year, arrives April 18. Following on April 25 is 3…EXTREMES II, a retitling of the Asian anthology THREE (actually produced before THREE…EXTREMES), featuring a trio of scary stories by noted Far East genre directors. Also hitting on the 25th is THE NUN, the latest release from Brian Yuzna and Julio Fernández’s Fantastic Factory and directed by Luis de la Madrid, about the title character stalking young victims. Finally, the 18th sees the release of two new entries in the Samuel Z. Arkoff Collection of classic ’50s drive-in fare. Click here for more cover art pics.

DVD Active reports: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced an unrated special edition of Hostel which stars Jay Hernandez and Derek Richardson. The disc will be available to own from the 18th April, and should retail at around $28.95 or thereabouts. The film itself will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. As well as including a 94 minute unrated cut of the film (apparently a sicker and more twisted cut!), the disc will include a commentary with director Eli Roth, a second audio commentary with the director and Quentin Tarantino, Boaz Yakin, Scott Spiegel and Eli Roth, a third audio commentary with producer Chris Briggs and documentarian Gabriel Roth, and a fourth commentary with online film pundit Harry Knowles. Completing this new package will be a “Hostel Dissected” making-of featurette, a “Kill the Car” multi-angle interactive feature, another “Hostel Dissected” behind-the-scenes featurette, and a "Kill the Car” multi-angle interactive feature.

Fango has also learned that Kismet Entertainment/Graveyard Films will release CEMETERY GATES, the second film directed by SOTA FX co-founder Roy Knyrim, to DVD May 30 through Ventura Distribution. PHANTASM fave Reggie Bannister stars as one of a pair of scientists tracking a mutated, ferocious Tasmanian Devil that has been stolen from their lab and escaped, and sets its hungry sights on a group of college students shooting a zombie movie in a graveyard.

i got cemetary gates at movie gallery for 4.07 they sold it too me for the rental price.which is awesome it was already opened but had a few scuffs on disc but i watched it and worked fine. there was a glitch after watching the first making of featturette at the end instead of going back to the menu it said disc is dirty. so since they sold it me and i dont think they were supposed too and worked fine other than the one glitch i am very satisfied.

also if you are a gorehound looking for alot of blood and gore this movie will definitly leave you happy

I worked on that thing, and i thought it should have been way better. the original creature was way more ratlike and a lot cooler than the thing they ended up with. the script was bad to start with, so i guess there's no fixing that.
When i first heard the title 'Cemetery gates', i had hoped it was going to be cool. could have been, but not enough passionate people about the project i guess.
