anyone a fan of PIRANHA 2: THE SPAWNING ?

a sequel in name only by dir: james cameron w/ special effects by gianetto derossi.....does anyone like this film?, i know this film was cut for an R rating, i'm wondering if the DVD is the R version or is it the unrated print, i just got in a japanese import of this under the original title PIRANHA 2 : FLYING KILLERS..... and although i have yet to view this version or any for that matter, i know the version i have is supposed to be the uncut version w/ added dialog, more nudity, and a tab bit of gore......that was all cut for an R rating.............

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082910/alternateversions

anyone want to share their views of this film ?

I really didn't care for this one at all. The fish are hardly shown, real quick cuts and when u do see em good... its quite laughable. I guess its worth one viewing but overall... I'd say behh. Part 1 is waaayyyy much better and alot more fun.

i actually like this one alot. maybe even better than the first one. it's got that italian thing going on and im sure there are some real solid reasons why i like this one better than the excellent first one but i'd have to rewatch to remember why.

According to DVDCompare:

"The Japanese Video release is longer than the "R-Rated" US release and features gratuitous nude scenes, extra dialogue and character development, extended sequences and a bit of extra gore. Sadly no Japanese DVD exists at this time."

Don't want to be pesimistic but I think that the R2 Jap DVD contains the R-Rated version even when it comes from the same country as the uncut video. Sadly, there's no available review at DVD-Basen.dk.

We'd be very grateful if you could corroborate that for us. Hope I'm wrong.

Thanx in advance,
Franco

PS: I love the Piranha movies but mostly the first one. Not only is a lot more fun but it also features a Pino Donaggio soundtrack. The song played in the end credits is simply ... wonderful.

Funny ass shit, but I bought then quickly sold the region 2 disc a few years ago as I don't see it cracking my playlist often if at all. I'll watch it if it's on cable when nothing else is.
I do love the posters for it though!

I think I remember seeing this on TV when I was a bit younger....

Is there a scene where a guy's sitting on the beach in a beach chair and a piranha flies out of the water and attaches itself to his nose?

For some reason I remember that and it's stuck with me for a long while..

I know I saw this as well as dozens of other horror/exploitation (some good, lots bad, some life changing like Night Of The Creeps) on tv or cable back when I was a teen, over at my best friends house, high as hell, laughing so hard it hurt. First time I saw it I almost shit myself when the fish started flying.
Looking back, I think seeing these movies on tv was the best way to be introduced to em. You had no idea (except for the title) what they were about and no clue what to expect. I think that "going in blind" as I call it, is the best way to view, not after reading a bunch of reviews or reading the back cover.
Perfect example: From Dusk Till Dawn. It has never had the same punch since my first viewing (although it remains a favorite for sure) when I didn't want to see that "ER fag in a stupid movie", but my GF at the time rented it anyway. That was just mind-blowing when it turned!

It's pretty awful, the only memorable scene was where the two big breasted bimbos tried to seduce the geeky guy. Memorable, because it was so damn funny.

I love Piranha 2. The recently released Region 1 dvd by Columbia/Tristar is the uncut, international version of the film. Back in the early '80's, the American distributer edited the picture down during its theatrical run and that version was the one available on video for decades here but has now been replaced by the correct version. Too bad the Region 1 dvd isn't in its proper aspect ratio. I have a British PAL disc from MIA Video that contains the uncut version and has more picture on all four sides of the screen. Oddly enough, I bought a Region 4 dvd released by Columbia/Tristar from Australia that was in widescreen, and it was just a matted version of the Region 1 disc!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone here have the Japanese dvd so we can compare images?

Region 1 on top, Region 2 on bottom
