I'm more excited after reading this although, I hope it has a scary/creepy element and is not just total gore. Evil dead is my fav of the original trilogy due to the fact that it was more horror than comedy/gore. I hope this is a horror movie and not a horror comedy.

So, basically, Sam and Bruce are just gushing about how its effects are much more polished than the original. Excuse me, but I have never really felt that the effects of the 30 year old original were so awful. I mean, they were actually incredibly impressive for the budget and made it much more fun than it might have been otherwise.
I'll get it on Netflix but that's about it.

It looks bloody and gory...but meh, it also looks too polished.
They had to omit the character of Ash, but tree rape was mandatory I see. |

I'm still debating how angry this trailer made me, but it's still a huge relief that Diablo Cody got bumped out of this. I could only imagine how awful a hipster-ironic Evil Dead would look in comparison to this over budgeted, polished one they are dishing out to us.

if every remake ever has taught us anything, its to approach these things with expectations firmly in check. just remember, you only saw about 1 minute from a 90 minute movie. thats a lot of unseen minutes where shit things can happen to ruin any promise you see in the trailer. i'm optimistic too, but lets not get crazy.
anybody else think its a little ironic that they make you watch an ad for sinister before you're allowed to watch the ad for evil dead? If i'd looked for the sinister ad on youtube, would it have shown me the evil dead ad first? i'm voluntarily subjecting myself to your advertisment, people! give it a rest! ...fucking youtube. |

So is this a remake or a sequel? Over on the IMDB boards there's a bunch of twats arguing over whether or not this is a remake, sequel or all of the above.
Not sure how this can be a sequel...? Last edited by Chomp; 10-24-2012 at 09:04 PM. |

It's my impression that they are making Evil Dead 4 as well as this remake.

From what I have read and gathered after months of following this around. This film was initially Evil Dead 4 under a new director. Bruce Campbell was slated and set to reprise his role for this. The feeling was Mr. Campbell was supposed to get in shape for this return. After those plans failed they scraped his character all together. Which is why there is no Ash in this film he's not replaceable. He was also not willing to shed a few pounds just wanted to return as his current self. As far as this film officially being a sequel or a remake that could be debated. To me it's nothing more then an overproduced remake/re-imagined turd.
