Venus In Furs - Jess Franco
Jess Franco, is not exactly my favorite director. Oh hell, he sucks ass. A person who thinks his own films suck has no hope whatsoever. But, I did like some of his styles in Faceless.
Now since Blue Underground are releasing this flick, I was bored and did some research on it. Came up with people calling it "Jess Franco's Greatest Film" and "Jess Franco's Masterpiece". I really have been hearing only good things about this film. Have any of you guys seen it to comment on it? Is it worth getting the BU disk when it comes out on the 22nd? Thanks Alot.

It's definitely one of Franco's best, with some great imagery and use of colors. However, I don't think it could be more different from FACELESS, which is a completely standard slasher film, so don't be expecting something similar. It's a rather slow, dreamy film, but it really pays off.

I can't wait to get this and 99 Women, both of which seem to be highly regarded by Francophiles. I always thought Vampyros Lesbos was supposed to be his masterpiece, but so many people say it's crap compared to Venus In Furs, so we shall see.

99 women is being released in 2 versions by BU, an unrated DC and a X-rated French version. Can anyone offer advice on which one to get? Thanks in advance.

The shorter cut of 99 WOMEN is Franco's "Director's Cut," and the longer French versions have scenes that were not shot by him. So when I pick this up, I'll be getting the DC. It's cheaper and has more extras too.

I watched Venus in Furs last night. Very, very good film. It was very unnerving at times, it has a distinct nightmarish feel to it, as well. No problems with the acting or directing, both were quite good. In a way, it also has elements of noir. I recommend it for people just getting into Franco (like myself).
