Tarantino and...Jason?

Our pal Stax at FilmForce is reporting today one of the oddest and intriguing rumors I've heard in a really long time. According to their sources, Quentin Tarantino is in negotiations to write and direct the next FRIDAY THE 13th movie currently titled THE ULTIMATE JASON VOORHEES MOVIE (likely just a temp title). I had heard New Line was planning something big to replace the failed sequel to FREDDY VS. JASON but had no idea they were thinking about Tarantino! Or that Tarantino was thinking about them! Nothing is known about the project at this point other than it would be a "quickie" that would film later this year and would be a joint-venture between New Line and Paramount. FilmForce contacted Tarantino's agent at William Morris who would only say that the director had "not yet" been offered the job. But to be offered the job in the first place would mean that there is a job to be offered, no? Just try to wrap your head around the concept of a Tarantino written and directed Jason Voorhees film... My mind can barely comprehend the possibilities! Now if this rumor had come from anywhere else, I'd probably write off in about a half-second but Stax is no cub reporter and I have no reason to doubt his journalistic chops on this story. You can read the full story for yourself at FilmForce here. As they say in the real news world, developing!...

If this thing works out I am gonna be so happy can you believe it!!!

I have Batman Begins coming out then Superman Returns and hopefully a new ULTIMATE Jason movie. ALl I'll need then is a Nightmare on Elm Street prequel and my life will be complete.

It's Tarantino, so nothing would shock me.

Having said that, this shocks me.

I hope this does happen, it will at least completely change the way we hear some old song after it's used in a nice kill scene!
I seriously think Q could breathe some new life into the whole Jason concept, I just hope he takes a serious route (Jason X was a blast, but I don't want to see Jason reduced to a joke again. Once was good, now get back to where it should be).
Why would Paramount be involved though? The only reason I can see is the Friday The 13th title, but Jason is all New Line who I'd like to see do the whole thing since they aren't a bunch of public opinion/MPAA fearing pussies like Paramount are.

Paramount are probably involved for the use of the Friday the 13th title and no doubt they are seeing $$$$. Plus who will they use for Jason, Kane Hodder, Ken Kirzinger or ?. I would love Kane Hodder back but can't see it happening if they use Ken I hope they don't change his look from Freddy vs. Jason that way it will keep in continuity and I think this movie maybe a kind of restart maybe using the previous films as Vague History.

Mmm interesting. I always thought they did wonder why New Line never used it then? Hell maybe they thought the Jason title was more marketable.

if it happens, I'll watch it. but I almost hope it doesn't unless QT plans to take the franchise seriously and try to keep within the "rules" of these movies. otherwise he may as well just go and make his own slasher flick.

*hoping Kane Hodder is back no matter what*

I think New Line never used it to distance themselves from the Paramount movies, they like to feel that their movies are in some way superior to the Paramount ones. But on the back of the boxset it states that Friday the 13th is a trademark of New Line. I for one would love them to start using the Friday title again.

Now although this seems to good to be true Tarantino has been interested in doing a horror movie for some time so I say why not Friday the 13th. As for him keeping in with the rules of the movies I don't know if he will but is he a fn of the previous ones if he is then he probably will. LAthough I'm waiting for an announcement soon debunking this I can see it happening it is only a short time of work so maybe he'll do it because he knows he won't be on it too long.

well I guess one good thing about Tarantino is that when he goes into a genre film he seems to care about that genre and does his best to do something interesting within the confines. maybe it will be good.
...problem is that I keep having an image in my head of a dancing Jason

sounds awesome

jason's been dead for a looong time- nothing fresh- nothing interesting- tarantino is pretty good at keep the original feel and formula to movies of certain genre's - like the whole kill bill series and stuff- but he makes it feel fresh and cool too- i think this sounds like a winner- cant be any worse than jason in new york or in space!
