Best Horror film of the 70's

This was really a challenge deciding what should go on the top 19 and what should be listed as a suggestion for "other" but I had to take into account not only what I think should be there but what might be popular with others, well I tried.

Suggestions for "other"

Wicker Man, The (1973)
Don't Look Now (1973)
The Tenant(1976)
Deliverance (1972)
Don't Torture a Duckling (1972)
Eraserhead (1977)
House with the Windows That Laugh (1976)
Theatre of Blood (1973)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
The Legend of Hell House (1973)
Sisters (1973)
The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970)
The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)

Deranged (1974)
Salem's Lot (1979)
When a Stranger Calls (1979)
The Brood (1979)
Tales from the Crypt (1972)
Shivers (1975)
Deathdream (1974)
Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971)
Lemora: A Child's Tale of the Supernatural (1975)
The Last House on Dead End Street (1977)
Alice, Sweet Alice (1978)
Burnt Offerings (1976)

Best decade for horror in my opinion. I love tons of movies from this decade but I have to go with my top favorite horror movie and my favorite movie period, The Exorcist.

I gotta agree with betterdan, best decade for horror. I chose Dawn of the Dead. Not a bad one in that list though.

I mistakenly marked down Cannibal Holocaust as 1980 as i copied it off of the IMDB but I’m pretty positive it's 1979. Agreed though best decade for horror.

Even though I think the films of today are pretty good and I think horror is making a come back. They just don't hold a candle to allot of these films. These are just mammoth legendary films. There almost more then films, there like the Gods of Horror films

I completely agree with you except for the part about the films of today being pretty good.

I would have thought the 80s was the best decade for horror, but looking at that list, it's clearly the 70s. Heck, even the "Other" films listed make for a classic decade.

Since I feel Carrie is the best horror film of all time, I guess it's gotta be the best of it's decade, too. Still, there are at least a half dozen films on that list I wouldn't be upset if it "lost" to.
