The Best Decade for Horror
Following up on Ash's great line of horror polls in the Reader Polls section, let's all vote on the best decade overall for horror. The best one should be a no brainer, but I am guessing there will be many other decades that rack up a favorable number of votes. So, get to the polling stations!

I went with the 80's, although I feel the 70's and present are right there. I had to go with the 80's though. Cronenberg in his prime, Argento nearing the end of his, the 50 million franchises with mindless sequels. I'll go with 2000's in second, I feel that the resurgance of great horror is upon us (although movies nowadays seem to transcend so many genres it's hard to specify what is truly horror). Too bad Hollywood is still making movies, then we wouldn't have to weed out the crap.

I took the 80's as well.I grew up on the horror movies from that decade.I love the 70's almost as much but the 80's hold a special place for me.

70s were more cerebral and gory, but the 80s were fun, especially growing up.

I went with the 80s, mostly because that's the one I know the best, closely followed by the 70s

I went with the 30s. I love all the Universal Horror films and Lugosi & Karloff were at their best.

70s, 80s, then 60s. 80s would be best but it deteriorated into useless sequels the last few years.
I don't really feel comfortable evaluating the decades before that because I've generally only seen some of the films, usually the best ones, but not enough to really get a sense of how good the decade was in general. To me, the Nineties were terrible, only a handful of good films and most of those weren't really straight horror. It was mostly an entire decade of the mediocrity that closed out the Eighties. I'd probably put the current decade 4th, just because I don't really feel equipped to judge anything pre-60s. |

It's a no-brainer for me: the 1970's. However, the 80's are close behind it.
