Netflix Question

I noticed that Netflix rents out DVD's from different regions. Do they actually rent out the DVD's in different regions or do they convert them to region 1 and NTSC first?

I've never noticed other region DVDs at Netflix. What title are you talking about in particular?

Hmm, well I'm willing to bet it's not converted to R1 or anything, so I'd beware unless you have a player that can play R2.

That's pretty sweet that they have other region stuff (for those who are region free, which should be almost everyone by now). I might have to sign up if I see enough import stuff I want to watch. It's about time someone started doing this, since there's so much stuff in other regions that's not available in the US, or just way better versions of stuff that is available here.

Hasn't Niche Flix been doing the other region rental thing for awhile now?

I have a couple of region free DVD players that's no problem. I live in Canada so it's not really practical to sign up with them. I just wanted to use it as leverage to bug zip.ca into doing the same

If you try to add Switchblade Romance, aka Haute Tension, to your list, you get "The release date is currently unknown." So I wouldn't be signing up for other region dvds yet.

If a disc is from another region I believe Netflix presses their own. Some of their discs have their logo on it. Not sure if it applies to getting rid of the region code or the supplier let them press their own not to waste retail stock. I'll have to check regions next time I rent a HK disc.

EDIT: Actually, those HK discs are probably region 0 to begin with. Someone suggest R2 DVD to rent and I'll give it a shot.
