That's definitely one of the more lengthy articles on the subject. But for me, Jodorowsky's Dune is truly book-worthy. To be that far in pre-production with so many egoists and narcissists at play, all of it needs to be catalogued before the remaining parties involved are dead.

Too bad, I really would have liked to see AJ's take on the subject matter. Though I like Lynch's version, IMHO the radical thoughts and ideas behind the Dune saga, esp on sociological/political/existential levels are not adequately appreciated. Ah well, I guess you can't have it all...

Old read... though it still is mildly amusing to see the laughable paranoia healthy and working all this time ("The project was sabotaged in Hollywood [because] it was French and not American"...)

Lynch's adaptation, as flawed as it is, works splendidly as a film. As for Jodorowsky's version, every available detail - from scenography sketches, to the not-quite-director's audacious statements about Herbert, to the insane nonideas proposed by a certain certified lunatic involved in the project - suggests that it would have been an unwatchable mess, probably far worse than the unfinished "Silver Globe". I would not be surprised if it reached the "Barbarella" below-bottom level of reverse appealingness...

Yeah probably.......Alex is certainly out there.

But just hate the Lynch film with a passion.

This would have been really interesting to watch. I'm a major Lynch fan so I cant say I would have preferred someone else to make it, but it definitely makes you think. He's certainly got some wild ideas for the story. I'm still waiting for Criterion to announce El Topo.
