Question Dawn of the Dead - Republic Films LD

All this talk of laser discs has had me checking out the DVD Connoisseur laser crypt to have a look at the old collection. It's been years since I bought a LD and quite a long while since I actually viewed one!

My Dawn of the Dead LD is by Republic Films - released briefly in 1993 but pulled (I was informed) by Romero because he hadn't approved it. The film has a running time of 131 minutes - I believe this is the most complete version available. Can anybody confirm this? (The sleeve of this particular release is pretty uninspiring but, thankfully, the picture quality of the discs is fine from what I remember - apart from being pan and scan.)

Pan and scan? I thought DAWN OF THE DEAD was shot at 1.33, then matted to 1.85, so you are actually gaining more images?

The most complete version is the ElITE LASERDISC which beats out every Anchorbay print. It is 142 mins long. And has an aspect ratio of 1:85:1

Yeah. If you want Dawn of the Dead on the ol' 12 inch disc format, begin and end with Elite Entertainment. Either the CLV 2 disc set, or the CAV Box set, the picture is just stunning.
