A sad day indeed.Anyone who doubted Akkad's true talent should catch up to LION OF THE DESERT,his directorial effort about the Italian invasion of North Africa prior to World War 2.This is an impressive epic, played out with a fine cast on a grand scale.Anchor Bay is releasing a new Special Edition dvd of it shortly.

Artists can be destroyed by violence but the true essence of their art can not be.Akkad lives on in every person who ever saw his work.Rest in Peace.

Done.

Listen up folks - it's been a while since I've said this, so I'll say it again...

Disrespectful posts aren't allowed in obit threads for the very reason that occurred here, that they only serve as threadcraps and in turn create flame wars. We don't need that kind of bullshit in threads in general, and we certainly don't need them in obit threads.

In other words, if you don't have anything nice to say, just stay out of the thread.

Thanks,
Hyde

RIP to somebody who showed more dedication than anyone to my favorite series of films in any genre. Thanks Mr. Akkad for all the great films and years of entertainment. You will be sorely missed by me and I won't forget the difference you have made in my life through the Halloween films. If it wasn't for you they would have stopped long ago.

'Halloween' Producer Buried in Syria
Nov 14th, 2005

Moustapha Akkad, the executive producer of the Halloween films who lost his life in the hotel bomb attacks that hit Jordan on Wednesday, was given a hero's burial in Syria yesterday. The 69-year-old, who also directed the 1981 movie Lion Of The Desert starring Anthony Quinn, Oliver Reed and Rod Steiger, was in Amman to attend a wedding in one of three hotels struck by suicide bombers. His 34-year-old daughter, Rima Akkad Monla, also died in the blast. In the wake of Akkad's tragic death, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad signed a decree awarding the American national Syria's most prestigious civil medal to award "his Arab nationalist stances." Akkad was laid to rest in the northern city of Aleppo, where he was born and raised before he moved to Los Angeles in the 1950s to study
I'd also like to add my condolences to the Akkad family.

Here's a great article from Reason magazine on Akkad's life and work, and his struggle with Islamic extremists.

Very interesting read.

LA tribute to Moustapha Akkad this Thursday

Quote:
Los Angeles’ WGA Theatre (135 South Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills) will hold a special memorial for HALLOWEEN producer Moustapha Akkad on Thursday, January 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Clips and speakers will pay homage to the man who launched Michael Myers. Akkad was killed (along with his daughter Rima) last November in a terrorist bombing in Jordan (see Fango tribute here). For details on the Akkad memorial and to RSVP, go here.
