Is it just me or does the announcement of a sequel to a yet to be released film actually seem to detract something from the excitement for the first?
Nothing like saying "the story isn't finished/complete before everyone has seen the film. Thanks for letting me know about the open endedness already.

I hear ya Demon. I didn't much care for Cabin fever and it seems like Hostel is getting mostly lukewarm advance reviews. I'll wait to rent it.

It's a damn shame LG didn't go with his idea for a Cabin Fever sequel. I would love to see where he would've taken it, especially if Deputy Winston was involved. I wish those dolts would just release an uncut version on DVD already.
Really looking forward to Hostel. If it's half as good as Cabin Fever, I'll leave the theater happy. |

He didn't say the movie had an openended finish. In fact he said he wrote Hostel in a way that there wouldn't be a sequel. I thought I remember reading good reviews for this from a few different sites including Bloody-Disgusting.com, what are the gripes of people who didn't like it so much?

Lukewarm review. Didn't say anyone trashed the film, it just seems from what I've seen and read on this that I don't want to pay theatrical prices for this one, especially after doing that with Cabin Fever and leaving a bit disappointed.

As much as I'm looking forward to Hostel, count me out for any sequels. Not that I'm saying they're going to suck, but I think he should stick with original ideas. And as for Hostel itself, I've read nothing but amazing reviews, so many in fact that I'm stopping myself from reading anything further in order to not get too hyped up. And no, I haven't read any spoilers, just ecstatic reviews.

Wolf Creek is getting subpar reviews, now Hostel? Are horror fans just trashing everything for the sake of it or are there some decent movies not getting decent reception? I remember a lot of people I personally know trashed on House Of Wax, Amityville Horror and the Skeleton Key but I enjoyed them. Amityville Horror a little less than the other two, but it was worth the price of admission. I also own House Of Wax and Skeleton Key now. Despite what people say, I'm going to try and see both movies to make my own judgement.
With all that being said, thanks for the heads up. I like to get my information from all sources.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Hostel" is worth seeing ASAP. Why let others spoil it for you? Give Roth a chance...it's only his second film and he's trying something different with it.
I do agree that horror fans in general have been overly fussy in a year where there has been strong product. Still haven't checked out "Wolf Creek" but I plan to in the next few days. |

If you go by other people's words, you really won't be seeing at least a good chunk of the movies you want to see. Cabin Fever was awesome except for that stupid jokey part at the end. Hostel looks pretty fucking sweet. I saw Wolf Creek earlier today and fuck the haters! It was a great flick.

Cabin Fever was interesting the first 15-20 minutes but thereafter fell apart I felt. I still plan on going to see Eli Roth's 2nd film, even though I'm pretty sure it'll be more of the same horrible directing. I am also planning on going to see Wolf Creek this weekend if all goes nifty!

I enjoyed Cabin Fever for what it was. It was overhyped, IMO, but still a fun time. Some people seem to want to crown Eli Roth the new King of Horror but so far he's made one good [not great] film. I think I'll wait to see Hostel and one or two more of his films before I start singing his praises.
Still, I'll go see Hostel at the theater with an open mind. Hey, I might even love it. You never know. |
