The Rage

Kurtzman’s latest is all THE RAGE

Quote:
FX artist Robert Kurtzman gave Fango the scoop and some pics from THE RAGE, the new film he's directing through his Precinct 13 Entertainment company, which has provided FX for features like THE DEVIL'S REJECTS and HOSTEL. Scripted by Kurtzman (pictured below behind camera) and his former KNB EFX compatriot John Bisson, and produced by the duo with Matt Jerrams and Anne Kurtzman, THE RAGE stars Andrew Divoff (from Kurtzman's previous directorial outing WISHMASTER) as Dr. Victor Vasilienko (pictured at bottom), a crazed scientist experimenting with a rage virus on innocent victims in a laboratory in the woods. When his monstrous subjects escape and vultures devour their remains, they became mutations seeking to feed on humans.

The movie co-stars Playmate of the Year Carmella DeCesare in her feature-film debut, along with PHANTASM fave Reggie Bannister. SPIDERS/MOSQUITO director Gary Jones is co-producing the film, for which Bisson is in charge of production and creature design, Dave Matherly is supervising visual FX and Gino Crognale and Al Tuskes are working on the special makeup. Popular horror musicians Midnight Syndicate will provide the score. "We are handling all of our production chores in-house at our Precinct 13 Entertainment studio—building our own sets and doing the editing, sound production, etc.," Kurtzman tells Fango. "It’s a real guerrilla production we’ve put together without Hollywood influences or financing. We'll be shooting exteriors in June, and have been shooting and prepping as we work around the weather." Look for more on THE RAGE on this site and in Fango's pages in the near future; a website and teaser trailer will be posted soon.

I think that Gary Jones has a great touch for movies like this. I'll give it a shot for sure.

A POSTER OF RAGE

Quote:
Fangoria has reported that FX wizard/director Robert Kurtzman is directing a new movie called The Rage. Here's the story:

Dr. Victor Vasilienko, a crazed scientist experimenting with a rage virus on innocent victims in a laboratory in the woods. When his monstrous subjects escape and vultures devour their remains, they became mutations seeking to feed on humans.

So guess we are getting a Birds movie after all!

In more good news for Wishmaster fans, Andrew Divoff (the djinn himself) is starring as the scientist who releases the virus. That guy needs more work.

Click the poster below to read the story, with a little background on how it's being made from Kurtzman himself.

THE RAGE LIVES

Quote:
The official website for The Rage is currently up and running, with a teaser trailer and merch up for grabs.

As we previously reported here, The Rage is about a doctor (Divoff!) who fucks with nature and ends up setting loose a swarm of killer zombie birds.

I'm an unabashed fan of the Wishmaster films, if only for the fact that director Robert Kurtzman knows how to make us gorehounds giggle with glee.

In other news for Kurtzman fans.... his Precinct 13 company has a website up - which has a wicked new VIFX reel of some of their latest work. All the kills with none of that plot getting in the way!

They've also got some merch up for Kurtzman and John Bisson's upcoming project Asskickers of the Damned, which is a name i'm sold on already. If you're into making models- they've got some quality stuff there, along with t-shirts featuring a zombie's head being blasted out.

Anyways, we'll have more for you as we hear it. This movie already looks like it could be a lot of fun, though... and it never hurts to see Andrew Divoff in another genre film. Look how happy he looks!

Sounds a little bit like 28 Days Later. Hopefully this one will do a better job of delivering the goods. Early shots I've seen look pretty damn sweet.

This one will be good. I met Andrew Divoff at the Rock & Shock con in MA last year. Super nice guy and we got into a really great convo about his debut movie Neon Maniacs. He didn't know it was on dvd and mentioned as soon as he got home, he was gonna buy himself a copy.

Yeah, I met him last year, too, at Horrorfind. I was all fucked up when I walked in and he was the first person I saw. I yelled "WISHMASTER!" and he got up and came over and shook my hand. It was cool.

Bump/Updates

From Fango:

Director Robert Kurtzman just sent over the fresh poster art seen above for THE RAGE, his science-nature-and-Andrew-Divoff-run-amok film. He also advises to “Stay tuned for upcoming release news, as we are finalizing a deal for U.S. distribution as we speak…it’s coming up fast and furious. Expect a DVD release in the first quarter of ’08.” While he doesn’t mention the company…is that a Screen Media logo we spot on that poster? In any case, we’ll bring you full disc details as soon as we get ’em, and in the meantime, see our advance review here and the movie’s new official website here. —Michael Gingold

Finally!

We've been waiting quite a while, but the long-anticipated Kurtzman film The Rage is going to be hitting dvd on February 26th, 2008, through Universal Studios Home Entertainment. It'll be hitting in both R-rated and Unrated versions, make sure you get the right one! Here's the DVD specs:

* Making of THE RAGE
* Director’s commentary
* FX Stills Gallery
* Behind the scenes Stills Gallery
* 2 Music Videos

You can pre-order it through us at Amazon here. Along with that there's a brand new, better trailer up on the site (check it out here) that's got plenty of blurbs from reputable folks in the industry. It does looks amazing, but I personally have been sold on this film for months now... not too much longer till we all get to see it!

This was a pretty fun and gory b-movie. Very over-the-top with a neat mad doctor theme. Not a perfect film, but lots of brainless bloody action that kinda made up for it. Worth checking out if you happen to enjoy Re-Animator or Feast or 28 Days Later
