Helter Skelter VHS VS. DVD Question

I have a question about the 'Helter Skelter' DVD. I have the old Key Video VHS wich runs 119 mins. The DVD runs 184 mins. I heard that the DVD is the TV print and is edited?? Is this true?? Also what does the extra hour contain?? A/V quality??

Thanks

The quality is really good. The only edits I've read about are concerning some dialog. As far as I know the DVD is uncut and contains the full 2 part tv movie. For $15 its worth it, might even be less now. The key video might actually be cut to reduce the long running time. Hope this helps

I don't believe that the DVD is edited at all. This was originally a mini-series for broadcast television, and a pretty intense one at that. The original VHS was edited into a "movie length" version, similar to when Salem's Lot (not the remake) was originally released on VHS as Salem's Lot: The Movie, and then released years later in a two tape VHS set as the full mini-series. And then the mini-series made it's way to DVD, as well. The DVD version of the original Helter Skelter is the full length version. A pretty large chunk was cut out for the original VHS release.

even though the vhs is shorter, what the vhs was a "oversea theatrical cut". Remember the TV movie EXECUTIONERS SONG? It was a 2 part mini series, the re-issue vhs touted it as being uncut, but was a sanitized version, as aired on tv, BUT the earlier vhs release was little over 2hrs, and was the European theatricl cut, with 4 letter words, and Rosanna Arquette nude alot.

Same with HELTER SKELTER, the key video was the theatrical cut, yes it is shorter, but it has language and quick shos of violence to get a R rating and to play overseas.
