"The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane" (1976) - Two DVDs?
Okay, I just ordered this film on DVD yesterday from Amazon.com. I paid by money order so I probably won't receive it until late next week or early the following week. (I mailed the money order yesterday.) This is the cover art Amazon.com has posted.
![]() Nothing surprising there as that is the cover it was released with on October 4, 2005. I've also read that the transfer on this DVD is the longer European international cut of the film rather than the PG rated US theatrical cut. But here's the troubling part. While looking around on the 'net I found this cover. ![]() Why would this film get new cover art when it's only been on the market for four months? Do you think MGM/Sony used the longer cut by mistake, found out about their mistake, and are now correcting it by releasing the US PG rated cut with new cover art? Is this the work of another shitter soccer mom as was the case with "Swamp Thing"? You can't even get the disc at DVD Empire. It's listed as "Currently Unavailable." |

I remember both of those being proposed cover art for the single release and one of them actually being used... I'm not sure if they changed the cover for any particular reason though in this circumstance.

My DVD has the 1st listed cover artwork. I think the 2nd listed cover artwork was the one that most sites listed before the actual release, but it wasn't actually released with that cover.

I actually like the second cover better; it's too bad it wasn't used. I still need to rent this movie!

Mine was bought at BEST BUY when it first came out and has the 1st artwork which I like especially since it has the original logo design (see the image of a girl used as the letter "I" in girl).
I don't like the 2nd cover at all and I am glad it was not used. It was fun watching the movie again as I only saw it once on TV at a very young age. I remembered some of it correctly and some of it not correctly which made for a fun viewing experience. You also get a "side" shot of Jodi Foster ... actually it's from behind but she is slightly turned (so back is not straight on to the camera) thus giving a nice shot of jiggling side cleavage - John "FulciLives" Coleman

I saw the first cover on the shelves here at the store. The second cover actually sums up the feel I get from the film. I almost missed the DVD at the store because the first cover didn't strike me until I did a double-take while looking for it.

I highly doubt there's different cuts of this movie. I don't think it's any worse, then a PG or PG-13 at best.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I've never seen the film, but I've read lots of praise for it on the 'net, people saying that it's a very good suspense/thriller, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Back to Swamp Thing, what's the controversy with that? Do I need to buy it at work today? Haha..

It's because of people like that we have these watered down PG-13 horror movies today. Big to those people.

BEST BUY used to have that old SWAMP THING DVD in stock all the time for like $15.00 maybe it was even $10.00 and I always wanted to pick it up but I never did.
The thought at the time was that they would re-issue it with the same discs but change the artwork ... maybe even slap a sticker on existing artwork. It was a shock when they re-released it using the "cut" version. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying it when I could have and sure there is an uncut PAL DVD out there now but although I have PAL to NTSC capabilities I would still rather have a NTSC DVD. Even with a top notch PAL to NTSC DVD player I can still see conversion artifacts on my 51" 16x9 HDTV. The only good news is that I've heard that the first uncut NTSC DVD is a single layer disc so if you can find it for rent or know someone that has it you can make a perfect bit-for-bit digital back-up using a computer with a DVD burner. Unfortunately I don't know anyone that has this DVD. - John "FulciLives" Coleman

Damn. We only have the "re-released" version or at least I'm pretty sure it's the re-released version. Now I wish I would have bought this back then...

http://www.fridaythe13thforum.com/sh...ht=Swamp+Thing
Here's a thread from the Friday the 13th Forum regarding the recalled Swamp Thing DVD. The incident happened in April 2002. The culprit, Mary Dorflinger, of Dallas, TX. Some corrections to my earlier post. The DVD was rented from a Blockbuster, not purchased from a Target. It was the dad that walked in and saw the kids watching the nude scenes. He then called the mother. Apparently, there is a little nudity in the PG cut as well, just not as much as in the unrated cut. Gotta love this quote from the article: Quote:
