Which is one of the worst films and score ever to hit dvd.

I have seen The Slayer mentioned quite a bit. Is it worth the purchase? If so where can it be picked up?

Scalps is worth it just to listen to the always entertaining Olen Ray commentary and hear what a nightmare it was to actually do the film.

The Slayer has a few good moments, but ultimately it's quite boring and not a lot even really happens in the movie. I have the R2 Vipco DVD, and the transfer is pretty terrible.

Am I alone in thinking "House on Sorority Row" was an understated classic of the genre.
Anyone else agree?

No, you're not alone. It's a great little film.

Criminally underrated. I love it!

Ok, just because I know nobody is going to mention it, I'd like to give my vote to Valentine, the 2001 Denise Richards-starring slasher.

It's one of the best post-Scream slashers, even though no one wants to admit it, and if you want a glossy, "high-class" slasher that is neither dumb nor self-referential and "funny", then Valentine is a great choice.

There, I said it.

No-one mentioned Pranks aka The Dorm that Dripped Blood. It wasn't great by a long shot, though. Also Silent Scream and Welcome to Arrow Beach. The House that Screamed could also be considered a slasher, can't it?

Oh, and these:
- Mountaintop Motel Massacre
- Motel Hell
- Criminally Insane
- Blood Diner
- New York Ripper
- Blood Cult
- Revenge (sequel to Blood Cult)... is this available anywhere?

Um, that's the purpose of this thread: to recommend good slasher films to people who want to see more but don't know where to start. The thread is full of good recommendations.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Cheerleader Camp before now. It's another one that gets a big recommendation from me. Extremely fun, and it has one hell of a nice ending.

Wow, I can't believe I missed that one either. It is a lot of fun. I second this recommendation.

It's been available on DVD for over four years now from VCI. There's even a commentary track and some other footage.

Agreed. That one was painful for me to watch. I tried to watch it for maybe six or seven nights in a row and I kept falling asleep. I eventually made it through, though it was mighty painful to do so. I should have just stopped on the first night... it really wasn't worth it at all.
