Fuck I HATE it when this shit happens!!!
Okay, I just bought a DVD of De Palma's 'Body Double' off eBay because the old Columbia release had gone OOP (the one that was widescreen/fullscreen) and Sony re-released it in 2004 as fullscreen only. So I finally find a copy of the widescreen/fullscreen version and I buy it. I check out DVDactive and it turns out we're getting a SE on October 3rd from Sony. FUCKKKKK!!!! I mean, the copy I bought wasn't too expensive (like $7 US) but I still have to get the money order and shit. To be honest, I don't want it anymore. I wanna tell the seller, but I don't wanna piss her off because I know how annoyed I'd be if a buyer told me that. If only I had waited ONE MORE GODDAMN DAY! SHITTT!
I mean it's nice that we're getting a lot of SE's now for films that were originally bare bones, but SHIT. I keep having to replace film after film. ~Matt

I have the older widescreen anamorphic disc and will more than likely just keep it. The transfer is pretty good from what I recall so you might as well just keep the one you won.
Thanks for the news about the new version anyways. |

I waited on buying Wicker Man for five months because I heard of the remake. I knew they'd re-release it but I never heard anything, so I bought it.
It will be re-released in a couple months time. I just cross my fingers that it doesn't have tempting bonus features.

The real answer is that you should wait for the best possible release of a film and buy it. Just about everything will get new SE's in the future and unless you've got the most definitive edition you could ever want, like the Dawn Of The Dead:UE, then get a cheap bare bones and wait; or if something you want is OOP then you should really wait because it's always going to come back in a better edition down the line.

This happens because we panic when DVD's go OOP, never facing the fact that few - if any - films truly go OOP once they've hit DVD. Salo is probably the one most people know about, and even that is available for normal price in other regions, and it's a longer cut too.
Resist the temptation is the answer. In this case you spent $7, I'm hoping that won't break the bank, and you are getting the movie you wanted. |

Is Last Days of Disco available in non-R1? I don’t want to risk spending an assload on the barebones R1 release, since with Metropolitan seeing a Criterion release, I think this one may not be too far from re-release land.

I'm just really skeptical about buying OOP DVDs now. I still desperately want to get the OOP Anchor Bay DVD of 'Alice, Sweet Alice' and William Friedkin's 'The Guardian'. Apparently 'The Shining' has also gone OOP (as well as all the other Kubrick DVDs from Warner. Can we expect SE's for those ones too?) I wouldn't mind a 2-discer of 'The Shining', much like the one for 'What Ever Hapened to Baby Jane?'. ~Matt

Warner is going to be revisiting all of the Kubrick titles. I think they said that the new box set will roll out the end of the year, possibly next.

If Hudson Hawk can get a Special Edition, than just about any movie can. I was actually gonna buy the full fram Body Double since I never knew there was W/S screen version and I figured it would never get a Special Edition. From what I've heard, its only gonna have a few featurette's no commentary.
On a related note, I've been wanting to get "Shivers" forever and it's now oop. I'm just gonna be patiuent and wait for a new release since a lot of Cronenberg's stuff is getting the SE treayment. |

I know that "Last Days of Disco" and "Jude" were lost in the shuffle when Universal bought out Polygram/USA Films. A number of DVDs went out of print after the Universal buyout, and Universal hasn't bothered to reissue them. "Jude," (with Kate Winslet and Christopher Ecclestone) in particular, was only available for a few months before going OOP.
