Final Destinaion 3 DVD thread
So what did you guys think of the "Choose Your Fate" option on the FD3 dvd? i thought it was pretty neat, though i do wish the option was more "real time" rather than morphing off to a "select" scene menu. It'd be really neat if something like this continues. Imagine if NL puts out a Jason flick and has alternate death scenes and lets the viewer pick which one! Now that would be definately cool. On a side note, disc2 had a 20+ minute documentary on "Dead Teenager Movies." I never heard that term before, but it's the same as what i call "teen slasher" flicks. Anyway, it was a really cool extra that used clips from various NL titles (NOES, Jason flicks, TCM, etc..).

The choose their fate feature was much more than I expected. It's a lot of fun and fits great with the tone of the movie. I still haven't gone through all the features on this DVD because.... there are a lot of them and because I spent a lot of time choosing fates. New Line has always treated this series well on dvd, but they just went nuts with this one. Excellent.

I think it's a great idea, someone finally taking advantage of what DVD's can do, too bad I couldn't care less about the flick.
It would be great to do a direct to DVD Jason film where you can pick how Jason will off his victim.

So this actually has different deaths for the characters? extra gore? I amy be sold on this one, although after seeing it in the theatre I was not very impressed, especially after the gore heroics of the second one.

Roger Ebert uses the term all the time, though not in what I would consider a complimentary fashion. |

There are 2 alternate deaths, and 2 alternate lead ups, and one where you can save Frankie. I prefer the theatrical deaths myself, although there's more nudity in the alt. tanning salon, and you can't really say anything bad about that!
Don't bother saving Frankie, it's so not worth it. I was under the impression that this would change many things, but it led to one extra brief shot of him and a joke pop-up asking if it worth saving him. Of course you'll have to guess which opition will save him, I won't spoil anything more than I might've so far. Then there's the nice alternate version of who stays on the coaster to begin with..... Also props on the "newspaper article" about what happened to the survivors of part 2. Fun feature, I hope to see more of it in the future. This is a great dvd and I haven't even listened to the comm. or popped the second disc in yet. Last edited by bigdaddyhorse; 07-27-2006 at 10:04 AM. |

The DVD was well done. I watched the theatrical cut first and then just chapter-skipped ahead on the Choose Your Fate feature and it was pretty cool. Not as gimmicky as I expected. It didn't serve much of a purpose since it really only changed the circumstances surrounding a death and didn't change the actual death itself, except in one instance. I haven't even popped in disc 2 yet.

Just finished watching this one. I was a little disappointed with the opening coaster scene as it was so cgi-looking but it more than made up for it with the rest. I found myself cheering for certain characters to survive, which is unusual for this type of movie, but added to my being involved with the story. Just wish I'd seen this in theatres. All-in-all a worthy addition to the FD franchise. Can't wait to watch it again with the "Choose Their Fates" option.

Ummm...maybe my "choose your fate" thingy didn't work? Either that, or I need to try it again...Just watched it today, and I didn't get a prompt to pick who stays on and who stays off, for one thing...then, at the first prompt I got, I used the left/right arrow keys to move from heads or tails, but then couldn't actually "select" one or the other. And in the first case, after I highlighted one option, let it play and watched what happened, seeing the scene, then rewinding back before the selection prompt and arrowing over to the other option, it played the same scene...
I kept trying to push something to actually select one option or another throughout the movie, but other than moving the arrow back and forth and then the movie would start up, nothing else in the movie was any different other than the version I saw in theaters. Does that sound like a problem with the movie (I KNOW I have problems) or was there an actual button I was supposed to be pushing instead of the "enter/select" button on my remote that was supposed to make something different happen? |

Maybe your player just can't handle it, or maybe you got a bum disc. All the prompts are heads/tails or other 2 option choices that don't say what is what. |
