I would have to go with "Audition" and "Don't Look Now."

I'm with slinker and marioscido. The best ending for me has to be Don't Look Now. Based on the list, I went with Sleepaway Camp. I LOVE showing that to newbies and waiting for the response. Classic ending.

I voted for Carrie. Although Sleepaway Camp's ending was quite a surprise, I consider "shocking" as meaning something that causes a sudden jump of fear.

What about the 1984 horror flick: "The Prey"?
The evil monster catches the girl, at the end you see the cave and a baby crying....so she screwed the monster

I voted for Carrie. That ending scared the FUCK out of me when I first saw it. I was crying like a baby because it was so sad and then all of a sudden-- BBBBOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!! I was screaming bloody murder.

Sometimes I like to take it out and scare my unsuspecting friends who've never seen it.

Sleepaway Camp and Friday the 13th are a close second though.

1. the house with the windows that laugh
2. sleepaway camp
3. blair witch project
4. don't look now
5. sixth sense

wicker man, audition, jacob's ladder, saw, the others, haute tension, descent, The House That Screamed, old boy (can i consider that as a horror?)

I would say also the great final of the thing, that is subtly disturbing

I saw Sleepaway Camp for the first-time a year or so ago, and it successfully creeped me out. Wicker Man was my second, although I suspected what would happen, the way the outcome reaches its apex usually gets to me.

Audition and Sleepaway Camp - Sleepaway Camp was just weird and funny

Old polls pulled off the back burner...

Of those listed for me its no contest - Night of the Living Dead. Just such a shocking downer of an ending, and no foreshadowing or other warning that it was coming. Nothing else on the list hits the same mark in terms of both surprise factor and the lingering "that was fucked up" emotion.

Also of mention:
Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - mainly because the movie just gave every vibe it would go the clichéd happy ending route, and didn't

Dead & Buried

Just about anything by Cronenberg.

And, finally, just one line....."Boooooy!"
