I don't know about scariest, but some of my favorite vampire films in the last 30 years are movies like Herzog's Nosferatu remake, Interview with the Vampire, Coppola's Dracula, The Lost Boys and Near Dark.

I can't remember a vampire film that I found really scary, although I'm sure I must have seen one at one point or another. I guess I'm not very scared of vampires ...

Scariest vampires are in Salem's Lot. Very unique in that no other movie portrays them as etherial, unnatural beings. Most of the time they're of the usual Euro-goth variety.

I would probably have to agree with Salems lot also - couldnt explain it any better than the post above- Vampires are not made very scary in 99% of the movies- more the the dark romantic type evil doers- (which I have nothing against those movies) - but as far as scary the vampires in Salems Lot were very creepy- that being said I would not say Salems Lot is my favorite Vampire movie but the vampires in the movie creep me out the most.

When I was a kid I thought Fright Night had some scary moments, even with all the less scary moments/humour.

Salems Lot the book was one of the only books to actually scare me. The movie didn't work too well for me but I'll need to watch it again soon to see if I like it more.

Well, Vampires are not scary, but Salem's Lot manage to scare me as a kid, so that wins.

As a kid, Fright Night was the one vamp flick that stuck with me (hence, the name).

Also, Salem's Lot had some genuine creepy moments! Kids floating outside bedroom windows, the main vampire! Egad!

To admit a vampire film had scared me, I'd have to go back to my youth. Now they're fun, but not scary. Salems Lot, Hammer's Dracula, and Lugosi all scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. Not any more mind you.

The likes of Near Dark wasn't at all frightening for me. I can appreciate how spooky Murnau's Nosferatu is though.
