Lady Frankenstein DVD question

Is the DVD Drive In DVD the only version worth buying? And is it still somewhere to be found?(I guess not)
Basically my question automatically turns into:Which DVD of Lady Frankenstein is the second best?

It's probably the best DVD but for the cost some prefer just the cheapie releases.

BTW, when ordering don't use the Paypal link on the DVD Drive-In page, that account isn't used anymore but Paypal is more than willing to take your money anyways. You need to use the Paypal link on the main page instead. E-mail the webmaster to get all the details.

I bought it from them earlier this year (I believe), I e-mailed the webmaster to confirm first and he said they still had stock and he told me how to send the money.

The page was working then but as I said the Paypal link wasn't, I guess after I pointed it out then the webmaster removed the whole thing. Before he had just removed links to the page but the page itself still existed.

It's simply best to contact DVD Drive-In, they're good about responding.

I have a copy of this version (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Killer-Creat.../dp/B00005A07N) and its sealed. It's region 1, and the Lady Frankenstein is the 84-min US theatrical cut. I could also sell it to you dirt cheap. Like $2 plus shipping.

Apparently:
Quote:
I believe George Reis cropped a full frame picture from a PD source, which probably itself was cropped, to make the DVD Drive-In presentation "widescreen."
But there is some rumor about a German uncut DVD of this one.I'll keep my eyes open for that one.

The rumor is true.Released by Biuo Omega and Anolis who brought us Blutige Seide:
Quote:
Well Anolis has done it again, it just became official that they are working on a special edition of Mel Wellesī "Lady Frankenstein". Hereīs what Ivo Scheloske had to say so when asked if the rumor was true (translated it for you guys):

Quote:
"The rumor is true and Lady Frankenstein will be the third title in our Buio Omega Collection. The first one was Mario Bavaīs "Blood and Black Lace" and the second one is Robert Hosseinīs "Une corde, un Colt" which will be released this summer.

The estimate release date for "Lady Frankenstein" at the moment is next fall and so far things are looking optimistic. However this going to be our biggest release yet so far (if we go all out it might turn into a 4 DVD set!!!) and this means we have to work very careful and precise to make sure no mistakes are made during the production of the DVD.

Thatīs why i ask for a little bit of patience, like with all our S.E.

Best wishes, Ivo"

Now who would have ever thought that this movie would see a, possibly, 4 disc special edition release huh ? Knowing Anolis i know they will do their best to please the fans and wonīt dissapoint us ! Just when you thought it couldnīt get any better... Anolis does it again ! I for one am totally excited about this announcement, i love the movie but the current grey market releases donīt do it any justice, but finally this will be rectified and another euro cult gem will grace our collection.
My only hope is that it'll include an English option (sound or subs) but we'll see.

Very good news indeed. I wonder what quality of film elements they'll use for the video transfer considering the film negative was "misplaced" after Roger Corman got through with using it making the American cut.

Four discs though? At least one of those has to be a soundtrack or something. They must be considering including different cuts of the film or something.

Looks like the original cut was never released, at least Tim Lucas and company haven't been able to find it:
Quote:
I'd like to know [what happened], too. I think Anolis was the company doing this, and the same producers who were behind the German BLOOD AND BLACK LACE release. (If they happen to be lurking, please correct me if I'm wrong!) I sincerely hope that Mel Welles' death hasn't put a halt to this.
http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/sr...NKENSTEIN.html

Sorry to hear Mel has died, never to see it get a final release, but at least he knew it was on the way.

Here's the original news posted by Tim Lucas back in 2004:
Quote:
To my surprise and delight, I found a telephone message from Mel Welles on my answering machine this morning. His message was elliptical, so I dialled him back not knowing what to expect... but it was wonderful news.

Some years back, I wrote an article about Mel's LADY FRANKENSTEIN, which appeared in VIDEO WATCHDOG #78. It chronicled how his director's cut (released only on a rare Swedish DVD in English) had been greatly condensed -- and frankly made worse -- for its US release by Roger Corman. At the time I interviewed Mel for my article, he was elated by my discovery of this frankly crappy-looking Swedish VHS copy of his original cut, which he believed had been forever lost to the mists of time.

But today he's even more elated. It seems some fans with a German DVD company were inspired by my article to start digging... and, after a couple years of solid detective work, they succeeded in locating maybe 95% of the original uncut elements, along with a variety of soundtracks in different languages. The film was finally able to be fully restored, thanks to an Italian TV company that was able to provide a positive copy of the 5% of the footage missing from the negative. The results will be released as an import DVD in January, featuring new on-camera interviews with Mel, Herbert Fuchs and Lady Frankenstein herself, Rosalba Neri.

Mel told me that Rosalba actually lives in a 17th century Italian castle today, as the wife of the man behind A&W Root Beer! That ambiance always worked for her.

Anyway, I'm feeling some pride today in having inspired some fans to reassemble LADY FRANKENSTEIN. And as for Mel Welles... you're maybe thinking he's not happy???

It did air on German TV, so there are video captures floating around.

Does anyone know if any video incarnation of this film actually contains the end credits? I have two different budget releases and they both omit them...and from what I can tell every version out there is taken from the same source...anyone have any idea if the old Embassy VHS had the credits intact?

Tom Weaver reports of a 3-disc version in the works. I assume that's Region 1. Doesn't give any other details beyond it's (probably) coming, is (probably) three discs and will (probably) have liner notes. I'm picking up a pattern here...
