Now that I'm Region Free - What to Buy???

I know there have been other threads on this in the past, but I wanted to ask again. Now I am region free, so tell me some good DVDs, horror or otherwise to get. I am thinking about Argento's Sleepless, but that's just the tip of the iceberg!! I feel like there's a whole new world of DVDs out there for me to buy!

If you like Phantasm the 5 disc, R2 set is a real gem.

Prince Of Darkness and They Live both have great commentaries (order the French versions from amazon.fr and they also have 5.1 and more extras). So does Starman if you can't get enough Carpenter.
Dog Soilders has a bunch more extras.
The Descent has a full bitrate DTS track.
Alligator exists, has DTS plus Alligator 2 as a bonus.
Return Of The Living Dead 3 is uncut but full frame.
French Killing Zoe has a 3 disc set with the director's cut and all kinds of extras. Unfortunatly no English subs though.
Shocker has a great Craven commentary.
Witchboard is DTS and has all the US extras for about the same price from amazon used sellers.
Hellraiser AB UK set, the best versions of 1-3 by miles.

I'm sure I'm missing some, but those can get ya started.

I'd hit up the places that sell Asian stuff....it's nice not having to wait for a region 1 DVD to see a movie you want.

It's a awesome feeling!

Look for the region 2 version of the hitcher and I highly recommend the ntsc R0 version of battle royale. It's better then 5 deep fried cheesecakes (the film not the dvd). If you look a couple threads below this one at the prom night discussion you can get the R2 prom night box set. Just get the R4 version of prom night III, the one in the box set is cut.

If you haven't choked on the million other evil dead dvds the R2 box set of the evil dead trilogy is good stuff (if you can find it).

Also this site helps a great deal with dvd comparsions: http://www.dvdcompare.net/

I can personally vouch for the Phantasm and Death Wish box sets. The Phantasm flicks all have widescreen transfers and DTS sound and all the Death Wish flicks are uncut in their correct aspect ratios. The Phantasm Sphere is also a pretty sweet piece of packaging. People who see my collection always want to put their filthy paws on it.

The new R2 Bond sets also look sweet since the sets are organized by the actor who played Bond instead of randomly as in the U.S.

Welcome to the club. And warm up your credit cards. Getting a region-free player gives you that many more DVDs to buy.

Pumpkinhead R2 is 16x9
Death Machine R2(?)is anamorphic and a longer running time
Army of Darkness R3 is the best looking transfer short of the HD-DVD

It's only 2.35:1 letterbox, but not anamorphic enhanced.

I would check out The Face Of Another by Hiroshi Teshigahara. It's awesome. The dvd is put out by Eureka in a line they call Masters of Cinema. The whole line is bitchin', although the cost keeps me from owning more than I should.
