I'm pretty sure their shipping to Australia isn't great. I'll have to look again next time they have a sale though.

That should help you out a bit. Some awesome deals on there sometimes.

Smallish updates regarding the status of Tenebrae and Phenomena:

So, we have to make our releases from the masters received. While the presentations are arguably the "best" they've looked, they certainly aren't representative of what "I" would've done, if given the chance. I just have to make the best of what we have, and for TENEBRAE and PHENOMENA, this is going to take a little time.

Someone needs to tell them to keep fighting for negatives. I'm happy to wait if it means a proper restoration and I'm sure others would agree.

Why didn't Synapse work all this out before licensing the title?

They are pretty much in the same situation as Arrow was with their earlier Italian releases.

It would be better if Synapse wait until they find better materials, but maybe they only got the rights for a short period, and can't afford to wait any longer?

Must be hell working with the italian titles, as they don't seem willing to hand out the negatives that often, and the labels are handed whatever old crap laying around.
Though the Wild Side transfer of Tenebre is actually pretty damn good. Not perfect, but a huge step above all the other transfers before it.

But let's hope they can get the damn licensors to get them closer to the negatives.

I dunno but I was pretty damn pleased with Arrow's steelbook re-release of Tenebrae. I think it looks great, with great packaging and a ridiculous amount of special features. I won't be upgrading. But Phenomena I'm down for.

I considered grabbing Arrow's Tenebrae steelbook but I decided the film isn't one of my favorites so an upgrade wasn't worth it to me. I've heard good things about Arrow's new transfer so I'm happy for anyone who truly loves the film. I don't really want to advocate for Arrow over Synapse but it sounds like Don will be up to his neck with restoration work on the film so I wouldn't hold my breath for a release date anytime soon. If I were a fan of the film I'd want to have it in my hands ASAP. Besides, the steelbook looks sweet IMO.

great! I'll definitely be pre-ordering Countess Dracula. Nice to see them maintaining and adding to the existing supplements. Hopefully Synapse acquires a few more Hammer titles, they've definitely been treating those they do with a lot of respect.

Well, unless someone else has an uncut 35mm IP or original negative laying around in the USA, there's not much hope of getting access to something else. A theatrical print would be dense, grainy, yellow and horrid. What we have is the lesser of two evils, for sure.

Yes, we have. Our master CAME from them. According to the licensor, they never kept the original raw scan materials. This boggles my mind. The other master they have is the grainy, pixelated one from LVR that was released from Arrow first. Both transfers have huge issues. Onward and upward, as they say...
