Talking Good horror films coming back sort of?

Are good horror films finally making a come back? I'm looking forward to seeing Hannibal next month. Sam Raimi's The Gift which opens this Friday looks interesting. What do you think?

I'll cross my fingers on these but who knows. If they don't deliver I still have high hopes for House of 1000 corpses.

Unhappy

I saw the Gift and it was damn boring. Some scenes reminded me a lot of What Lies Beneath (there is even a bathtub scene!). A major letdown fron Raimi.

Thumbs up

"Only reason that I am gonna see The Gift anyways is because we see Katie Holmes breasts"

even though it kinda goes by quick you have to give raimi, billy bob, rob or whoever lots o' props for that.

Question

What happened to The Convent? I've been dying to see this fun, gory flick and it's still not out!

You must see "The Convent" You must see "The Convent" This is the most killer awesome horror/comedy I have seen since Evil Dead II or Dead Alive! They just don't make them like this anymore, until now! I cannot recommend this movie more to all of you horror fans! This is a MUST see!

I actually liked last year's House on Haunted Hill remake. Some good bits in that, and an overall fun film. Or was it the year before...?

I'm definitely excited for Hannibal, but the new Fango (I think it's in an interview with the director) says they changed the ending somewhat. The novel's ending really took me by surprise & I hope the movie doesn't jack it up too bad

That version of "House..." was '99, Napalm. I really enjoyed it too, by the way.

Cool

again...

House of 1000 Corpses
Ed Gein
All American Massacre

those are my 3 bets, though it now seems unlikely that AAM will see the light of day.

DeepDownTraumaHound, I'm jealous!
Demonic nuns and Adrienne Barbeau, sounds like fun to me!
There's a R2 DVD out for it, but no R1!

I saw the convent at the central florida film festival last year. my friends and me made certain that we were there early. i suppose working for the festival and seeing it for free many, many months before it's realease was a HUGE plus! But all gloating aside, you will not be disapointed.

Yeah, there is a R2 DVD of The Convent out although its not widescreen.. I don't know of anything else that comes on it. Is there a R1 DVD planned?

I really don't have alot of interest in new horror movies these days (since I have so much catching up to do watching the old stuff) but The Convent looks damn cool and hearing you guys mention Evil Dead 2 along with it makes me want to see it badly. Other than that, the only things I'm really looking forward to is Shadow of the Vampire, 1000 Corpses and Elvira's Haunted Hills which looks pretty cool.

Landrvr - what have you heard about AMM not seeing the light of day? Isn't that the TCM sequel done by Tobe Hoopers son, and reprising Bill Mosely as Chop Top? I read an interview with Mosely somewhere, and no mention about it getting canned.

Strangely enough, Bill Mosely is in both the aforementioned House of 1000 Corpses and The Covenant. Serendipity or what...

The Covenant is available on DVD in both the UK and Germany...
