Lizard in Woman's skin

I picked up the Media Blasters/ Shreik Show dvd of Lizard in a Woman's Skin dvd the other day. The copy right date is 2006. Is this the new unedited good print of this movie? The box art is different than the one shown on the review. I don't want the older crappy one and was going to return this one if it is.

normally the new one, because that one had only 1 DVD while the older one had 2 DVD's

If it's the 2Disc you bought you should keep it for the extras (depending on how much you paid I guess)
If you bought the rerelease,it's decent.Not definitive but good.

I think this is the single disc. I want the best version that is currently available. I just wanted to make sure that this is the good transefer. I read that the two disc had some problems. The box says that it is the remastered version. I think this is the same one that is reviewed in the reviews section. I was confused because there is a threa entitled "Lizard Delayed, Media Blasters Shaping Up" This shows a different box and says it's not being released uptil 3-13-07. I wondered if Shreik Show put out another remastered version.

Just checked mine. The newer, remastered version has a copyright year of 2006, so it sounds like you got the right one. The cover is the same as that shown in the review, not the one shown in the "Lizard Delayed" thread.

From the sounds of it, you've got the one with the better picture quality. Even if you had bought the other though, you wouldn't be so hard done by!

I saw the new 1 disc version in Best Buy today and bought it since I've never had ANY version of it. The whole time I was racking my brain trying to remember if this site had posted a review of the new version. Now that I'm home I'm relieved it's a keeper even though the 2 disc had better extras. Can't wait to watch it tonight.

I love all of Fulci's movies from 1979 to 1983 and Duckling, but when I watched Lizard a month ago for the first time it left me unimpressed. Aside from the early acid imagery and the nudity I found it a pretty by the books late 60s giallo. I was bored.

That's what I thought about Black Belly of the Tarantula, even though I guess it's considered 2nd tier as far as gialli anyway.

Here are some of my thoughts on the film:

One of the funniest things about this giallo is how right-wing/reactionary it seems to be. Most of these films made in the early ‘70s seem to be more sympathetic towards the counterculture’s sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll hedonism, but all the main characters in Lizard seem to take the stance from the get-go that “those damn hippies” are to blame for everything—not just the actual murder in question, but for keeping them up at night with all their partying, etc., etc. While all these films are definitely products of their time, this one seems to be a bit more dated in a sense. Plus it was unintentionally funny how this one really cute blonde girl who was hanging out with Bolkin’s character turned out to be her step-daughter; there’s a scene where the blonde girl is lying on a bed in a very short white miniskirt with Bolkin’s husband later and I thought, “Whoa, so they’re having an affair!” and then she says, “Don’t worry, Daddy…” and I was like, “Did I miss something? That’s his daughter?” Maybe I should have paid more attention at the beginning, but the two women didn’t seem like mother and step-daughter, they seemed like shopping buddies. A couple of plot twists at the end REALLY confused me, and I don’t consider myself to be a stupid person. As it turns out, the director and his co-writer were really conflicted on how it was to end, so there may have been a certain lack of bolt-tightening at the end.

An interesting thing is also that Florinda Bolkin looks a good 10 or 12 years older than most actresses put into that kind of role. She looks between 35 and 40 and while good looking (more “handsome” than “pretty”), is obviously showing her age. Plus her body was somewhat disappointing. I thought her ass looked like a soggy white pancake. I believe she was much better cast in Fulci’s next giallo, Don’t Torture A Duckling, as the mysterious middle-aged “witch” whom the villagers fear. I don’t mean to sound “ageist,” but I think the younger Edwige Fenech could have really taken this role to another level. Someone I was impressed with, however, was Leo Genn, who I’d always thought of as this goofy old British guy who appeared in costume dramas usually wearing a Louis XIV wig. Here he plays Bolkin’s dad, a concerned old lawyer, and I thought he stole the show in all his scenes, but in subtle ways. The guy who played the main detective, on the other hand, annoyed me; he looked like an “ugly” Sean Connery and his head was too narrow or something.

As for the special features, I thought the professor was pretty knowledgable and interesting except for the fact that he seemed to really give Fulci's zombie period (1979-1981) short shrift even though most horror connoisseurs think of that as his golden era!

And the dog scene really shocked me even though of course I'd read about it. How the hell did they do that?
