All due respect Dave, but "somehow"? Come on. He sounds like a lunatic in just about interview, podcast and commentary track. He occasionally takes pot shots at his fans in the covers and menus of his products. He's earned his reputation.

I like that Code Red exists and I buy there product. I just find it annoying that some people will turn a blind eye to Bill's faults just because they like his product. Even worse are the super-fans that shout down anyone that tries to point out flaws. Praise the product all you like, but lets be honest. Most Code Red releases have flaws that are worth mentioning and message boards are the place to discuss them.

Oh, I see. You're comparing to the BCI release. I wouldn't know, sorry.

I have the Mill Creek version of THE BABYSITER. I watched it for 5 minutes and shut it off. Itís a PAL convert and there is obnoxious ghosting with any kind of movement. Iíve only watched the first 5 minutes of the Code Red release and so far itís gorgeous. $20 ainít cheap but itís the best way to watch a film that seems to have quite a following.

that's exactly what i'm saying. the "somehow" is in regards to the fact that he generates these ridiculously polar responses. There are people who refuse to acknowledge any flaw or criticism of a Code Red disc (the super-fans, as you put it), and then there are people who focus completely on Bill's interviews and personality and insist on jumping on everything he does. That's what I meant by polarizing. I say somehow because neither response is particularly reasonable. Something you seem to agree with...

^^ Sorry Dave, I had a not enough coffee moment. I thought the "somehow" was that you don't see any reason why he would be polarizing. My bad.

This might sound strange, but honestly, I think a lot of people do it solely because they know it will get a reaction. I also think that he misconstrues a lot of the comments and criticisms.

For example: When Code Red first went direct, and you had to e-mail him for prices and rates, I asked him something about combined shipping for multiple purchases. He sent me a kind of long-winded response about how he would go broke if he shipped for free or discounted, and spelled out all of his shipping expenses. It wasn't a big deal, but it seemed kind of backhanded, defensive, and unnecessary.

I can't speak ill of his service though, as everything I've ordered has arrived lightning fast. I'm very happy with my purchases, and have thoroughly enjoyed their releases. Even the few movies that I didn't particularly care for (like The Forest) are fun to have in my collection.

Yes. As I discovered via a thread on this very MB! (Last year I think.) That title had been on my Amazon want list for forever, and I kept meaning to buy it, and then I found out it was OOP! FMD!

I bought a copy but I'm still kicking myself that I paid Marketplace prices for it though! (Though as a bargain hunter, made sure I got the best possible price, of course.)

Retribution 25th Anniversary DVD up for sale at Amazon. I didn't know Code Red was releasing this film. It's also not listed for sale on the Code Red Dvd store website.

^ I would really like Retribution, but $26 shipped is way more than I'm willing to spend.

I thought the whole selling direct thing was to cut out the middle man, but judging from a lot of the prices I'm seeing (assuming The_Exterminator is Code Red), it seems like they're getting a bit greedy.

The newest under-the-radar release from Code Red, Guy Magar's RETRIBUTION (1987)! A depressed artist flings himself from a hotel roof in a desperate attempt to end it all. Across town, a local mobster gets doused with gasoline and set ablaze. The paramedics revive the painter, but something's not quite right -- it seems whenever he sleeps, he dreams of graphically killing gangsters. Is he insane, or is this vengeance from beyond the grave?

Highlighted by an article in Fangoria at the time of its release, RETRIBUTION has since been seemingly forgotten except for VHS aficionados few and far between. Code Red are putting it back into circulation with a new transfer, director commentary, and who knows what else.
