Stephen King is an author who has managed to craft a few classics more out of luck and persistence than out of talent. I think of him as akin to somebody who has never picked up a gun before at a rifle range: he shoots and misses a lot but every once in a while by pure chance he hits the target.

Not saying he's completely talentless, but he's definitely very overrated.

So is Peter Jackson. I've enjoyed a lot of his movies, but absolutely none of his movies (even the dearly beloved Dead Alive) breach my own personal Top 1000 films list.

Speaking of King, I just finished his pseudonym's newest, Blaze, which includes a foreword by King in which he admits this novel was a "trunk novel." Meaning, King had it lying around somewhere, forgot about it, stumbled upon it, re-wrote it and got it published.

It's a story of a retarded man kidnapping a child. Blaisdell ("Blaze"), once his buddy George dies (get it? "George." Think what would happen in Of Mice and Men if the fates of the two main characters swapped), needs to make some scratch and so he reluctantly--with the help of George's ghost (or is it just the imagination of Blaze?)--kidnaps some baby.

Pretty standard stuff, and nowhere near the manic pace I expect from "Richard Bachman." There's a short story added to the end by King that is supposed to be the impetus for his new novel Duma Key. Blah.

While I won't agree with you entirely Maybrick--I think King started off with a bang, hit a slump, then returned to greatness just before his accident--I will say that he has not impressed me in the last 5 or so books he's written (except for maybe Cell, which was a fun zombie Beach Read). Having read all of his books (aside from Lisey's Story), I can see the scales tipping to the more-bad-than-good reads in his catalog.

More gore and more tits is not always better, but it's never hurt a film either. It's a risk worth taking, especially the breast shots.

* I do not get J-horror, or any other Asian horror for that matter.

* Gremlins 2: The New Batch is the greatest horror-comedy ever made!

* As of recently re-watching these, Demons 2 is better than Demons.

* Tom Atkins is the real face of Halloween, because Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the best in the series! He's the one under the mask also, ahaha.

* While Night of the Creeps is fun, it's way overrated.

* Poltergeist is Tobe Hooper's best work. Other than that film and the original TCM he has not made a movie worth watching.

* I love The Hills Have Eyes 2 remake.

* Even though I loathe remakes, I will still usually go see them out of morbid curiousity. Unless it's a J-horror remake, then I will not see it at all.

* I never really new what a giallo was until this year.

* The Toxic Avenger is the greatest movie ever made!

* I love Troma. But yes, some movies in their catalogue suck huge balls, but I love what they stand for.

* Halloween is overrated. And definitely not the greatest slasher.

* House of 1000 Corpses is NOT a Texas Chainsaw-rip off. It's a satanic-carnival-family-freakshow-fun-fest!

* Caligula is fucking hilarious!

* I do not like Escape from New York.

* Ed Wood is not the worst filmmaker of all time. I enjoy his work. It's hilariously bad! It belongs to Philip Adrian Booth, and his brother Chris, just for making the worst movie ever: Death Tunnel.

* Eli Roth's Thanksgiving should be made into a movie. PRONTO!

* Dracula starring Bela Lugosi bores me.

* Sam Raimi is the biggest sell-out ever.

* I love zombie movies.

* The Cell is the single most visually-stunning masterpiece.

* Matthew McConaughey's best acting gig is in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. He's freakin' hilarious!

* Troll 2 is the best worst movie ever! NILBOG!

* 2001 Maniacs! is just as good as Two-Thousand Maniacs!.

* The Mothman Prophecies is the most underrated horror-thriller.

* Hellraiser: Inferno is the greatest 5th part of a horror franchise. And a fucking awesome movie.

That's all I can think of for now.

I always feel dirty participating this these treads partly because I'm always at risk of watching the film again and having it finally click with me.

- Although I respect and enjoy them. Halloween and Dawn of the Dead are both overrated. Black Christmas and Night of the Living Dead are the best films in their Sub Genre's

- Dracula and the Mummy are the 2 most overrated films of the 30's

- The Howling isn't even in the top 10 Werewolf films.

- You couldn't pay me to sit threw another of those terrible Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

- Once the smoke settles and the crap is weeded out this decade will be remembered as a Very Good decade for Horror Films.

- I'm still waiting for a Troma film that I don't think I could of made and better.

- The 2 best Horror Films this decade have been made by the French (Haute Tension and À l'intérieur)

- Oh yeah and I say it again The Blair Witch Project is the scariest film ever made and I don't understand how someone who claims to be a horror fan can't at least appreciate it.

Speaking of Black Christmas, that's one of the classics (other than Rosemary's Baby) that I just plain don't see the big deal about.

My unpopular opinions

- William Friedkin's Bug is horribly bad.
- William Friedkin's The Guardian is awesome.
- Death Proof easily gets the snoozing award for most boring film of 2007.
- Stay Alive is fun.
- Silent Hill is pain.
- Martin is overrated.
- Day Of The Dead is overhyped.
- The Dawn Of The Dead remake kicks ass.
- TV is boring.
- Ring Two is better than The Grudge remake
- Inferno's ending is incredibly cheesy and bad.
- The Butterfly Effect is indeed poopy.
- Boogy Creek II: And The Legend Continues is the best bigfoot movie from the 80s.

The Cell is awesome, and I am not saying that because Vincent D'Onofrio is really attractive even in a role such as that one. It probably doesn't hurt though.

"Torture Porn" sucks.
So does Haute Tension and anything that director touches.
Don't get me started on cell phones and iPods.

Moxie is 10,000% better than Coke, which in turn is 100,000% better than Pepsi.

Pandas deserve to become extinct. They're too fussy in what they eat, and they usually leave the one cub they produce to die. Fuck them all!

Agreed. The title Halloween III hurts the film. It's actually prett nifty. Ironically, the last HALLOWEEN film to actually look like a Carpenter HALLOWEEN film even though it (technically) isn't. Why the BLAZIN' HELL are the actual sequels so flat and stale-looking?????????
