Don't Go in the House

And the third film in the evenings entertainment was Don't Go in the House. Some drinking toook place between this filmand the proceeding one - SS Experiment Camp, since we all needed to wake up after the previous snoozefest.

Given that I have two copies of this film, you can assume I'm a fan. I think it's a surprisingly accomplished little film. The performances aren't bad, the soundtrack is 80's fun (some nice disco) and it even has a video nasty moment embedded in it. So what's not to like?

This is basically a take on Psycho - mother dies, mad son lives with the body and hears voices etc. Hell, they even have their own take of the staircase murder. However, with an exploitation feel, some juicy 80's ambiance, and a little gore, things spice up nicely.

Why have two versions? There was a cheapy cheapy cheapy version released in R1 many moons ago, and that had an open-matte version of the film. This helps when you're in the mood for full frontal nudity with your cooking. The new DVD - which looks much better overall anyway - is 1.85:1 anamorphic. It also has some nice extras.

I love how they now sell it on the strength that the lead actor went on to be in the Sopranos, marvellous.

All in all though, if there's anything problematic with the film it's that it never again manages to raise to the giddy heights of that first kill. However, stick with it, because it tells its story well, and there's real character development here.

I recommend this, either in the new version or the old. Worthy.

Yeah I've been meaning to see this one for some time now. The cover has always intrigued me. The only thing is the fact that it's like $25.99 EVERYWHERE and I don't feel like resorting to buying it online. (I only really buy stuff online that I really HAVE to, and only if it's a REALLY good deal. And the online prices this one goes for, combined with the shipping don't really make much of a difference.) The fact that it was made in 1980 is probably what makes me want to see it the most tho, to be quite honest. Slashers from that era were just.....good. I don't know what it is about them.

Don't know mate - at DDD it's only $13.73. If you buy today the 20% sale is still on - so $10.98... and you can get free shipping. Not bad.

Ok, so I'm about to pay for this...but there's no additional 20%, and because I live in Canada they charge $5.95 for shipping, so it comes to $19.68. How do I get that additional 20% taken off?

I netflixed the older release of this a few years back, but don't remember much beyond that first scene!

I do remember that the trailer was really misleading, but it's one of the better trailers from that time period.

Yeah so I FINALLY get this title in the mail from Deep Discount, I pick up the package and I can feel it...the disc is loose and sliding around inside the case. Initially, I thought "oh...fucking terrific!" But I opened it up because I've had loose discs come out without a scratch on them before. No, the disc is scratched to shit! (I have no clue how it could've come loose. It has one of those holders that's hard enough to get the disc out, let alone have it come ajar by itself.) And upon further inspection, the case inside has a MASSIVE crack on it, the whole top of the case is cracked off, and there's a piece of plastic missing.

I know this couldn't have been done in the mail, since the DVD was packaged in one of those cardboard mailers, and the cardboard wasn't crushed at all, so, I know it left Deep Discount in this condition. And if that's the case, wow...that's fucking ridiculous. I was skeptical at first, but I'm definitely exchanging this and probably never ordering from them again. I couldn't be more pissed right now.

Damn Matt, I hate that sound when you hear it right when you pick up the package. Last time that happened to me I was lucky though. The disc didn't have a scratch and on top of that, it was on a bonus DVD someone threw in for me (it was an EBay auction) that I could have cared less about. The guy didn't even tell me he was throwing in a 2nd movie, haha.
