Best wide release Horror film 2007

I know the year isn't over yet but close enough. What was the best horror film to come out in theatres this year?

Can't vote. I've only seen 3 on that list.

Thumbs up

I voted for The Mist. It wins out over Grindhouse (a great moviegoing experience, but Death Proof really drags it down), and Halloween (a good "prequel" first half, but the "remake" second half is redundant and not so well done).

Well, I didnt see Hostal: part dos, saw 4, or Zodiac. I do plan to check out Hostal, but I was never a saw fan, and I hadnt heard of Zodiac till now.
Out of what I've seen I'd have to go with 28 weeks later, while it wasn't near as good as the first one it was still a lot of fun in theaters.
The worst film on this list is 1408, which should have been called 'John Cusack gets wasted and fucks up a hotel room'. Most newer Steven King story based films at least start out good, and then get progressively more and more retarded, but 1408 started stupid and stayed that way.

I've seen 9 of them, but I think some of the ones I haven't seen might be better--I generally don't bother to see movies in the theater anymore.

Anyway, I liked: 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, ZODIAC, 28 WEEKS LATER, DEAD SILENCE, and part of GRINDHOUSE.

Didn't like: BUG, DISTURBIA, THE MESSENGERS, and part of GRINDHOUSE.

Felt neutral toward: THE HILLS HAVE EYES II.

The more I've heard about 1408, the more I've been glad that Netflix hasn't seen fit to send it to me.

Have to go with Resident Evil: Extinction

1408 was my personal favorite on the list, with Bug right behind it. 1408 was like a light last summer, just when I thought horror was doomed to suckage, it came along to show you can't keep the genre down. I love it. The Mist was really good too, but I am still sorting out what I really thought about it. Threw me for a loop, that one.

I really loved Grindhouse too, but its subsequent treatment by the studio has unfairly lowered my opinion of the movie.

I haven't seen Hostel 2 (nor will I), Invasion, or 30 Days of Night.

The most disappointing was 28 Weeks Later by far. I tend to frown on movies that use so much shaky cam that I have to close my eyes so as to avoid getting vertigo. I didn't like Vacancy or The Hitcher, and I hated The Hills Have Eyes 2 a lot.

I still don't think Zodiac is anywhere near a horror movie though. It's very good, but come on.

Grindhouse. Followed closely by Bug.

Honorable mentions: 30 Days of Night ad 28 Weeks Later.

I've only seen four of those, so not qualified to vote. None of them were it though.

Worst year for horror ever in my eyes. I voted for Hostel II, but it was one of only a few on the list that even liked. There was nothing I loved.

Where's Hatchet?! Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon?! They both received limited theatrical release in 2007.
