Friday the 13th Pt.5 + 6
Hi,
Its probably been asked/covered before so apologies, but are the R1 discs of these two films the "proper" uncut versions. Have they been pre-cut at all of any gore? I'm in a "Friday" mood you see and was thinking of buying them (correct me if I'm wrong, but all the first four films are pre-cut versions on DVD, are they not?). Thanks in advance. |

Most of the death scenes are maybea second longer except the last on part one.
All the others,2-6 are the theatrical versions.Exactly the same as they've been on video for years. The transfersare very good, though.I recommend them. |

They are cut...but don't expect Paramount to go and revisit the series anytime soon! All the transfers are gorgeous (with slight exception of Part 4), with Part 5 and 6 easily looking the nicest. Part 6 has a surround track too, so I highly recommend it as well.

Myabe I'm a bit silly in the head but I heard, once upon a time, that after all 8(Paramount) films were released they were gona make Friday fans bleed some more green with a box set. Any one else hip to this?

I heard that rumor too, even helped spread it.
One of the "in the know" guys at dvdreview.com was where I first heard it. The poster either works for one of the studios or duplication factories, or has someone close who does. The main thing is he's not full of shit, and most of his info is good, except for the occasinal misprint or plans changing. I think this one will happen, and hope it does. I've held off on buying these due to high prices and no extras (not even 5.1, which isn't extra anymore, it's standard!) There's supposed to be an extra disc full of extra shita la Nightmare Encylopdia, sounds sweet! |

Well, for all you people who are expecting Fridaythe 13th special editions, think again. These original versions are not selling well, period. You think they are gonna spend time and money to make a new boxset for a series in which 95% of the general public wouldn't consdier buying anyway? nope.

It's really a horrible Catch-22. Buy all the original Paramount DVDs and they'll realize there's a market and do uncut collector's releases, but you'll be short an extra $200. Or don't buy any of their stuff and save money and they'll just say "Screw it, nobody wants those damn movies, we'll just do that PATRIOT GAMES SE instead." |

Firstly, the F13th movies didn't make Paramount like the Nightmare series did New Line so it's amazing that their releasing them period. Secondly, I too was waiting for SE's but caved and bought the first, and to me the obvious best, Friday film for a reasonable twenty bucks. Theoreticaly, if they eventualy release SE's, it wouldn't be until 2003, after the release of parts 7 & 8. So lastly, just remember it's Friday the 13th and there's lots of better horror SE DVD's too look forward of.

Friday the 13th films didn't make Paramount, true, but they sure as hell made them truckloads of money over the 80's. They deserve a little more respect than what they have been getting from them. I am very impressed with their video transfers on the film, but I mean, how hard is it to ask for a commentary. John Carl Buechler has stated he will work on supplements and provide uncut content and the works for FREE, but still, Paramount has stated they are releasing a bare bones Part 7 come next year. Paramount knows that the films have a cult following, and if they would look at the sales of various AB discs like Manhunter and AoD, they would realize that 80's/early 90's horror can sell very well if given the appropriate extras and care these films deserve!

Your right, F13th did make alot of money for the company, but that dosn't mean they will anymore. Sure the fans deserve SE's, but how many fans are realy left? I mean hardcore fans, not the ones who will check it out if it's playing on HBO some F13th just for a brief nostalgic trip. No, I'm referring to the ones who care about 5.1 sound, commentary and uncut editions. Not many me thinks.

Go look at how many people are signed in to the Fridaythe13thfilms message board, if that isn't a fanbase, I don't know what is!

I'm so sick of how Paramount has treated us Friday fans. They wonder why the discs dont sell so well......well, how about because they charge $30 for a bare-bones disc containing a trailer. No one wants to pay that kind of cash for NOTHING. You may as well transfer your old VHS tapes onto VCD, although I will say that the transfers on the DVD's are pretty damn good. I want an SE box set. So fuck you Paramount.
