That's a better cover than the old MGM-er.

I will definitely be picking this up soon as I can.

While there is a brief tribute to Stan Winston on the DVD, unfortunately Stan Winston was not available to participate on this DVD due to his illness at the time. The DVD was in production in the last few months of his life, and sadly his condition prevented him from being involved in the DVD.

Well yeah the art is better than the old dvd, but I wish they'd use the old vhs artwork instead.

Still, always been a fan of this flick and the kick-ass beastie, so it's about time it gets a SE.

Grab the excellent double feature set released by Anchor Bay UK. It's packed with bonus features, and has nice fullscreen transfers and DTS tracks. And for those wondering...fullscreen IS indeed the original aspect ratio for both movies according to the director himself.

Yeah, I agree. That is an amazing cover, the twisted tree is just not something MGM or Fox chose to incorporate... I wonder what the hell they were thinking about with that shotgun cover. Were they trying to market the film as an action-thriller (Henriksen looking a bit too much like David Carradine in the Kung-Fu series)? Doesn't a more artistic, creative cover always sell more?

PUMPKINHEAD
COLLECTOR’S EDITION

Stan Winston’s Grim Fairy Tale Turns 20
With All-New Commentaries And Featurettes

Collector’s Edition DVD Arrives September 9 From MGM Home Entertainment

LOS ANGELES, CA – Cruel, devious and pure as venom, MGM Home Entertainment presents a terrifying tale from the mind of legendary Academy Awardâ* winning special effects artist Stan Winston (Iron Man, Aliens) when Pumpkinhead Collector’s Edition arrives on DVD September 9. The 20th anniversary celebration of late Stan Winston’s directorial debut stars Lance Henriksen (Aliens, “Millennium”) as Ed Harley, a storekeeper raising his young son in rural Nevada. When a group of inner-city bikers arrive in the small town on vacation, a tragic accident occurs leaving Harley’s child dead. Driven by a childhood demonic vision, he seeks the aid of a reclusive witch who conjures that same demon, Pumpkinhead, to kill those responsible for his son’s death. One by one Harley watches as the creature kills the wrongdoers and he quickly discovers that a horrific price must be paid. The Pumpkinhead Collector’s Edition DVD is loaded with all-new special features including commentary by co-screenwriter Gary Gerani and FX creators Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis (Aliens vs. Predator-Requiem) and moderated by filmmaker Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money), seven making-of featurettes, behind-the-scenes footage, a still gallery and more. Pumpkinhead Collector’s Edition Synopsis

Carve into the core of one of the most “vivid, stylish, atmospheric” (The Hollywood Reporter) thrillers of all time! With commentary by co-screenwriter Gary Gerani and FX creators Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis, and a pulpy behind-the-scenes featurette, you’ll learn how some of the diabolical effects were created, and you’ll even get inside the mind of the creators of this freakishly frightening film!

When a group of rambunctious teenagers inadvertently kill his only son, Ed Harley (Lance Henriksen) seeks the magic of a backwoods witch to bring the child back. But instead, she invokes "the pumpkinhead" -- a monstrously clawed and fanged demon which, once reborn, answers only to Ed's bloodlust. But as the invincible creature wreaks its slow, unspeakable tortures on the teens, Ed confronts a horrifying secret about his connection to the beast -- and realizes that he must find a way to stop its deadly mission before he becomes one with it forever!

Pumpkinhead is, hands down, one of my favorite fliks of all time. Great atmosphere, great effects work (Arguabling one of Winston's top 3 best creature designs/costumes), an interesting story, strong acting, and, most of all, a timeless story.

I'll be picking this one up as soon as I see it (probably won't hit storioes in my area until the end of September/beginning of October for the "Halloween Rush"). It'll be nice to finally get a special edition re-release for this one. it's gone far too long with only a bare bones R1 release to its credit.
