another round of "What's This Movie?"

I saw this horror flick on AMC the other day.

this guy and his girlfriend have this Necronomicon-esque book and there is this alien/devil thing that disguises himself has the guys friend. When he finds out it isnt his friend he and his girlfriend run away and this flying devil demon keeps coming after them and attacking them with his feet. The flying demon is defeted cause they run behind this tombstone that is shaped like a cross and the demon explodes when it crashes into it. But the girl was killed by the demon. The guy tries running away and this big Death-like figure yells that he will die in one year and a day. The guy runs away and gets run over by a car that no one is driving. Then he goes to a hospital and tells his story. He is put in a mental institution and a year and one day later a chick that looks just like his dead girlfriend goes walking towards the asylum but walks real funny, just like when the demon tried to disguise himself as the guys friend.

Its a very shitty horror flick but i enjoyed what I saw of it, basically the climax, definite MST3K type of stuff.

Anyone know the name of it?

At the Criterion site, they have Equinox for a possible future release. Two more movies bear the name, so I'm hoping it's this one!

EQUINOX has also been released as THE BEAST. I taped it off of AMC last year. I got to see this at the drive-in with WAR OF THE GARGANTUAS a long, long time ago. It didn't hold up as well as I'd have liked, but it was still entertaining. Besides, there aren't that many truly "Lovecraftian" movies like this one. I also noticed somewhere that Sam Rami was accused of ripping this movie off for the EVIL DEAD series. I think that is silly, to say the least, because nearly every popular Lovecraft story uses this same plot in one way or another (the Necronomicon as a plot device, for example). Just an observation.
