Twilight

I'm surprised there's nothing on this yet. TWILIGHT looks pretty interesting, a sort of femme take on THE LOST BOYS, directed by the purveyor of indie teen angst, Catherine Hardwicke, of THIRTEEN, LORDS OF DOGTOWN and THE NATIVITY STORY fame. Kristen Stewart is probably my favorite of the neo-goth former child actor movement (which also includes Michelle Trachtenberg and Evan Rachel Wood); I liked her in PANIC ROOM and INTO THE WILD. Basically, new girl Stewart falls for jock extraordinaire who, and I quote the IMDb synopsis, "can run faster than a mountain lion". That's not all he can do though - he's a vamp, but nobody else knows his deadly secret.

At any rate, at least we look to be getting away from the sensationalism the vampire genre has been submerged in as of late thanks to the remnants of VAN HELSING and UNDERWORLD. Any step closer to MARTIN or even THE LOST BOYS is a welcome change.

It's just been announced TWILIGHT hits November 21. I'm game.

You know, even though there is obviously sub zero interest here for this one, I cannot help but notice how many other people I know that are just BURSTING to see this movie. I guess the books are pretty popular? I would be tempted to go pick them up, but nothing good can come from reading the source material so close to the movie dropping.

Although it has been quite awhile since I have enjoyed a good blood sucker story on account of them all being terrible of late, I guess I am in for this one if only to see what everyone is so hyped about.

No, it's on my list right behind The Babysitter's Club, though.

Never even heard of this but I'm sure I'll check it out. Need a decent vampire flick around here and Kristen Stewart's actually turning out to be a decent actress.

The books are very popular! My 12 year old daughter loves them, as do other girls at her school.

We all know rhett is a 12-year-old girl trying to pretend she's a canadian pushing a lawnmower in his undies.

Even if the movie sucks, at least it features Kirsten Stewart. I think that's the main point Lorhetta was trying to make.

my girlfriend got me onto these books about 2 weeks ago..i thought the trailer looked horrible and wasn't really wanting to read them..but..

they're actually pretty good. I read the first book in about 4 days and i'm about 100 pages into the second one. Though watching the trailer again after reading the first book, I don't care for it.. we'll see though I guess..

The books are probably much better than the movie, as is usually the case. I think the new HBO series True Blood sucks, but I'm interested in reading the books.

So this just made 80083048 bajillion dollars opening day - those teenage girls are a real force to be reckoned with. And here a few months ago I was feeling sorry for the film's lack of exposure by posting a thread here on it. None of that. This will easily be the highest grossing horror film of the year (the $37 million opening day is already the second biggest in history for a non-sequel). I guess we can expect the move away now from torture porn to tween emo goth horror.
