HDMI Splitters any good?

i have two hdmi ports one for blu-ray and the other vhs/dvd combo

i am probably going to get a xbox 360 elite system for x-mas. So i was wondering because gamestop sells hdmi splitters, so do they work alright also
you get to hdmi signals through one hdmi port correct? Is the picture and sound quality not affected? anyone got one?

I got a 4-port HDMI switchbox from Monoprice; works great and the price was cheap. Only using one port now (Satellite), but I'm planning to get PS3 and considering a dedicated HD-DVD player someday. Every so often the signal goes whacky but I simply cycle through the 4 ports and when I get back to the first, it resets. The one I got came with a remote, too. I got the cables from them, too. Very good quality.

I got a Joytech one about a year ago and it works great - I use it for my DTV HD and PS3. Cheap cheap!!!

Don't spend a fortune at a B&M store. Get it at Monoprice. I've gotten two from them. Started with the 2x1 manual switch and upgraded later to the 4x1 with remote. Both worked perfectly and were very affordable. Also got all my HDMI wires there. Great site.

From what an audio-video expert told me at work, you are going to want to spend over $50 to get good circuitry in an HDMI splitter. Cheap = cheap! When it comes to video fidelity, get the best you can afford within your budget. I'm not saying you have to go out and spend $700 on a Key Digital HDMI switcher, but you can get something that's going to output a picture as if it were a dedicated HDMI port. Right? Also, you want to make sure you're getting a good quality chipset in there as well.

Why not give this one a shot. It's got good reviews and performed well for a variety of devices:

While this is true with analog (to an extent) with digital it's not so true. Either the HDMI cable delivers all the 1's and 0's or it doesn't. That is one of the key benefits of digital, which I'm sure your audio-video expert would also tell you. So you want decent component cables for example. But even still Monoprice.com makes good enough cables.
