Hey people, it's a Giallo and it's R1. So what's keeping you?

Anyway, here's a positive review:
http://www.mondo-digital.com/tinto.html
Quote:
In a highly unusual move for the time, comic artist Guido Crepax (Baba Yaga) was recruited to actually storyboard the film to give it a strong graphic quality, thus making it a legitimate companion film to such Italian fumetti films as Danger: Diabolik and the Kriminal and Phenomenal films. Granted, there aren't any building-scaling superthieves in this one,but the stylistic realtionship is unmistakable.
Quote:
The Cult Epics release contains the complete Italian version with optional English subtitles, and while it quite obviously looks like a PAL conversion (with the 16:9 framing slightly cropping in the original 1.66:1 compositions, which muffs a few compositions), this version is by all reports the best as it features more accurate color grading and corrects some digital chicanery performed on the Italian one. In any case, it's a film well worth discovering for any adventurous fan of international cinema willing to dig a little deeper than the usual thriller offering, and Brass fans should be delighted to see an early example of the audacious experimentation which would soon come into full bloom with L'Urlo and Nerosubianco. The disc's extras include a theatrical trailer (which looks like it was created far more recently) and a full audio commentary by Brass, who apparently hasn't seen the film in a while and spends most of the time discussing the locations, shooting schedule, and character motivations. His accent will probably make it tough going for casual viewers, but his comments are always amusing even when they bear little relation to the film at hand. In any case, it's a real gem ripe for discovery after years of neglect.
Despite some of the technical flaws, I'm still buying this one soon(ish).

*bump*

I should've put "Giallo" in the thread title, right?

First time I have heard of it, but the comparisons to Danger: Diabolik and the Kriminal sound promising.

Might check it out. Thanks for the info. Crystal Plumage.

I've been wanting to see a "new" giallo for some time, and since this is in R1 I might just pick it up.

Haha, it actually translates "with heart in throat" as per Google translation. Which sounds exactly like a title for a Giallo

Well, it is a Tinto Brass film.

Regardless, I'll be interested to hear what you think Crystal. Always up for another giallo.

Finished watching this today.
First of all I'd like to say that the image quality leaves a lot to be desired. The picture is soft and fuzzy. Definitely a bad PAL to NTSC job. Also there are quite a few scenes that just look a bit too tight around the edges. But, with all the split screens, triple split screens and B&W and color, PopArt and "Batmanesque" EFX, this is not really a big problem.
And I also noticed some obvious, but minor microblocking / pixellation.

But the film is quite OK. A very trippy one indeed and not for everyone I guess.
Brass did a tiny ode to Antonioni's Blow Up halfway through, which was fun.
Ewa Aulin looks great and is drop dead gorgeous. I think she was 17 when she did this one, so I won't get into detail what went through my head watching her

Trintignant was fine. Though he's not very expressive.
There were some comedic elements that, IMO, didn't work all that well.

A nice addition to the collection, but in need af a better presentation.

That's a shame! I thought this label generally did good releases, like School of the Holy Beast.
