A question about Without Warning (1980)

I was looking on Greydon Clark's website and he has a few photos from the movie for sale.

One of the photos offered shows David Caruso and Lynn Theel getting attacked by the "starfish" while they are on the blanket by the lake. There is a starfish on her back and he appears to have one over his mouth. When they are later discovered doesn't he have a bunch of yellow goo come oozing out of his mouth? Maybe the starfish went inside of him through his mouth and we didn't get to see it.

It could've been a publicity shot or maybe just a makeup effect test shot. I'll bet their demise was filmed and later cut so there would be a "shock moment" later in the movie when they are found.

Just thought I'd ask. And yes, we need a legit DVD release of this "lost masterpiece." I wish somebody would get the so-rights settled. A movie collecting dust on the shelf isn't making $$$ for anybody.

You are correct. I noticed this photo in a recent issue of Fangoria as well. It's definitely not in the movie.

Last time I talked to Greydon he said he was trying to get a release together, and whatnot. This was sometime last year. I bought a couple of autographs from him on his website. Very nice guy(Even before I bought those)

While there are no "official" DVD releases of this one. It can be found completely uncut and with a near perfect transfer if you know where to look.

Actually yes. I have 2 PAL original copies. They are shorter than the DVD version I have and much darker.

That's interesting to hear. But never a U.S. Release I'm guessing?

Nope. No Beta, VHS, Laserdisc or DVD.

IMDB says there was a PAL Laserdisc release:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081764/laserdisc

Though, that title does show up in the Laserdisc Database (http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/38191/...ning-The-(1980)) under the title "The Warning" can't truly be sure that's the same movie. Plus, I don't have a PAL capable Laserdisc player, so it does me no good!

They aired this on Monsters HD last year before the channel bit it; still got it saved on my DVR!

Like much of the selection on that channel, Without Warning probably won't see a DVD release anytime soon; much less an Blu-Ray release - can't believe the myriad of things they aired on that channel in HD haven't seen DVD releases yet.

Just saw this for the first time (friend had a bootleg DVD) and thought it was ok. Nothing great, it gets reeeaaally slow for about 20 minutes before the climax, but it definitely deserves to be seen by a larger audience.
