Daybreakers (vampire movie coming next year)

Synopsis:

Quote:
In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.
Trailer: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809912192/video/14159298

Finally, a vampire movie with some teeth.

Really hope this is as good as that trailer. Vampires are getting a lot of attention, and it's hard not to want to roll your eyes at the prospect of yet another revamped mythos, but at least it's Horror, and people are still trying to be creative with it.

The thing is, I think Daybreakers was already in the can and/or in production before Twilight came on the scene. Lionsgate was supposed to release it September 11th this year, but delayed it to January 8, 2010.

This looks pretty good! Nice to see that "horror" has become a vehicle for some larger named stars like Hawke and Defoe. This one is a must see.

Trailer looks excellent, cant wait to see this. Nice to see the real vampires after Twilight butchered them.

When I read the synopsis above I wasn't very excited about this movie, but then I watched the trailer and it looks promising. Cool concept anyway. Something that hasn't been overdone.

Of course they cheated and put a Placebo song in the trailer which pretty much guarantees that I'll be paying attention.

I thoroughly enjoyed what the Spierig brothers did with their extremely low-budget zombie-fest Undead, so colour me very excited to see what they'll do with their take on the vampire genre with a budget and good actors to boot!

It looks like they had a budget high enough to entice actors like Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill to come on, plus Weta Workshop to supply the creature effects.

I don't like how Lionsgate put this on the back burner -- the success of 30 Days of Night and Let the Right One In shows that vampires can be done well.

that looks pretty excellent....definitely reminded me of 30 days of night...not especially scary, but certainly polished and entertaining...and love the spierig bros.

I went to see this Friday night. It was a midnight madness and I was pretty tired, fighting to keep myself awake so I really can't give an inept review. From what saw though I really enjoyed. It had an interesting concept and some good characters. The story reminded me allot of Omega Man. I really need to check this out again though when it comes out on DVD as I have a feeling I'll like it more once i get a grasp on all film's nuances.

Bumping this because I'm starting to see televised trailers, and I'm still curious.

Trailer 2

This "PSA" is also playing, which I think is a little lackluster.

Opens 01/08/2010.

It's not the most original movie under the sun (haha) but Daybreakers is still a lot of fun, and well worth seeing.

Saw it today. The Sperig Brothers do a lot right by the movie, in terms of production design, acting and makeup effects. The story is a bit too ambitious, and leaves a key plot hole wide open at the end.

Still, the movie's an enjoyable ride. The cinematography and musical score are one of the best things about the movie, especially the latter. I pray Lionsgate releases a soundtrack album of Gordon's score digitally or physically, it's that good.
