Canadian vs US DVD/ Blu Ray Releases

Hey guys, thought there should be a thread dedicated to the differences between the Canadian and US DVDs for certain titles. As many of you know, although most of releases are exactly the same other then Canadian releases having the title on it twice in french (Damn I hate that!), there are some releases that are quite different. There are some extras that are country exclusive, some audio tracks that are missing, or just some mvoies in general that haven't been released. So List em, and list which is the superior version.

You can find a lot of that info at DVDCompare.net. They compare DVD versions from all over the world.

Yeah forget about that site. I'll have to check it out before I buy a DVD from now on, as I hate buying a used DVD and then getting it home only to find out it's missing a DTS track! Damn Alliance Atlantis and their loyalty to the French!

And the only problem with that site and why I think a list could be better is that you would have to check every movie separate, when there are probably less then like 20 with differences between Canada and US. If you are going all Region then it's great, but if you just sticking to North America a small list may be better no?

That and they are missing some as I know The Protector Canadian DVD is missing the DTS track the American version has. i found that out the hard way and returned it.

Off the top of anyone's head. Has any Canadians found any Blu Rays lacking a better audio track, or is it safe to say that Blu Rays have enough memory to include the same tracks plus a French one?

I've seen a Canadian full frame DVD of Scanner Cop before.
As well, people keep asking for PIN on DVD, however I own a widescreen audio commentary Canadian disc of it. Was this also released in the USA?

yeah Pin was released in the US, Seville jsut re-released it here but they are the exact same DVDs as far as I know. SAcanner Cop on the other hand was never released in the US, or was its sequal, Scanner Cop 2. I added them to the list.

Thanks! Hopefully this will help some in their buying decisions as I know I have been ripped off a few times only to return a DVD for the superior American or Canadian version.

I know that sometimes Canada has better cover art. One example I can think of is Jersey Girl. In the US we got a terrible collage of every character, a map of New Jersey, and even Kevin Smith directing in the corner! In Canada they have the theatrical poster art.

Anyone know if the Canadian DVD of Martyrs is the same as the US version, video/ audio wise as well as extras? It is put out by Seville. Also, is it uncut?

Also what about Them aka Ils. Looks like the Canadian edition may be Full Screen. They have this cheap on iNetvideo, but if it's full screen then i obviously don't want to buy it. Any one know?

The Canadian DVD of Martyrs is indeed uncut and the transfer I'm going to assume is the same as the US DVD as it looks amazing. Can't speak on the extras as I haven't watched any of them, nor do I know what's contained on the US release...

The Canadian 'Ils' DVD is to be avoided, it's full screen. Just get the Dark Sky DVD for 'Them'.
