Poltergeist Remake News

www.dreadcentral.com

Quote:
Word has broken from MGM about their proposed remake of the classic film Poltergeist. The studio has slated the film for release on November 24, 2010, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) is attached to direct.
Not much news but....it's a remake. Doubt they can duplicate the creepiness of the original but I shall wait and see.

They should give Tobe Hooper another crack at it. I would like to see that.

CGI ghosts, oh joy.

The bad thing is this will almost certainly not lead to a new SE for the original film. I would love to see an SE for the two sequels, but that's a longshot.

In all fairness, there were CGI ghosts in the original film as well.

I second that.

Don't you mean "Optical Effect" ghosts? That would have been pretty early for passable CGI as we know the term today.

Looks like the remake is moving forward. It's being scripted by the guy that wrote the horrid Oz the Great and Powerful and will be directed by the director of Monster House and produced by Sam Raimi.

I bet this is going to be pretty horrid.

Oz wasn't that bad. I rather enjoyed it. I heard there were rights issues with that film which I think may have let it down a little. I'm going to just wait and see. It's too early to tell how this will turn out.

Ironic MGM is remaking a film they once owned before Turner bought it.

I will respectfully disagree. It was misdirected, miscast, cloying, poorly scripted and tedious. The 3-D was impressive though.

Disney's Return to Oz ('85) was a much more creative and rewarding journey to Oz imo.

So you don't think it was a decent popcorn flick at the least? That's what I was getting at anyway. It made me laugh quite a bit and has some nice visuals and characters. I missed the musical numbers which let it down a bit for me. I'll also agree that it was miscast, especially the Wicked Witch of the West.

I tried watching Return to Oz as a kid and couldn't get through it. It bored me to tears. I may have to re-watch that one.

MGM retained the rights to make any future sequels or remakes. Same with The Dirty Dozen and others that were originally MGM films.

Sam Raimi needs to keep his focus on Army of Darkness 2.
Because he owes it to his fans because he's a director who couldn't stand up straight without his fans unlike Quentin Tarantino.
Sam Raimi only has made 4 good movies in my books the rest are horrible.

So ultimately fuck this poltergeist remake.

Well Monster House was a great movie anyway and even though it was animated, it seems like a good audition piece for directing Poltergeist...but hopefully Poltergeist won't be as funny.

Either way I like haunted house movies so I'm in on this one. So far.

Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jared Harris will also star in the MGM and Fox 2000 film.
Poltergeist will begin shooting this autumn for release in 2014.
New news on casting.

I don't know how I feel about this remake...
I just found out about it now and I don't think it's necessary at all.
