And, if you couldn't tell already... not a big fan of metal. So, any opinions you may have of who is and isn't a better hard rock band are going to be wasted on me. And, I may be setting myself up here- but it sounds like you haven't listened to very much of the Smashing Pumpkins. And if you have, yet as a metalhead (I'm assuming you're a fan of this genre) you think they're not as hard as bands you prefer, I could care less. They have many hard rock songs and they go from hard to other levels back and forth with more skill than most bands who only aim to make your ears bleed. Or your brain.

So, if I'm really wrong about my observations of sexism- you're not doing a damn thing to prove it.

And I'm not a feminist. Just someone smart enough to criticize a musician on the basis of their talent and not their looks. And even if I'm the king of sweeping generalization, it doesn't take more than a general reaction to gauge the listenability of metal music. As for Gaga, she's into pop. It's a very easy game to play, so I don't pretend these artists show more talent than rockers by just singing and dancing and parading their fashion sense and money. I'll take a bad song to task everytime. I never said "LoveGame" and "Poker Face" were great. But I'll defend "Just Dance" and "Paparazzi" to the end. Music is music - so I don't care who makes it and under what circumstances it's made.

You know- everything in her career has taken forever to happen for her. The Fame didn't come out until '08 (after, I'm told, they spent years hyping her up), and now she can't even score a Grammy nom until next year?!

Well for 2010 it won't be for Best New Artist. Which she probably would have won.

But the album missed Grammy eligibility period in 2009. But I think that one song was nominated for a dance category in 2009. Now for 2010 the whole album can possibly get nominated. And all the categories that go with it. Pop, Song of the Year, etc...

I will never understand the Black Album hate. It ain't no Master of Puppets, but it fucking trumps the shit out of ...And Justice For All. Better produced, tighter songs. Who cares if they didn't feel like shredding for 7+ minutes anymore? And it made a shit ton of money, which "classic" Metallica fans seem to get pissed about. From the ones I've talked to, they seem actually angry that people besides metalheads started liking Metallica. They wanted to broaden their horizons and create something that might attract a different audience as well. Good job to them for not letting themselves get pigeonholed. In the five years after the Black Album their music took a serious hit, but I think that album is still in the vein of classic 80's Metallica, only tighter and more polished.

I know I'm generalizing, but I think metal fans just automatically start to hate a band if their music isn't 10 minute opuses or catered specifically for them anymore. Artists grow, expand, and change.

That's what the rest of us have had to look at for as long as we've known about her. That said, for the people here who'd never heard of her... I do think it's easy to have missed her. Someone (I think) already mentioned Mtv and Vh1 - if you never watch them...and I don't. And then there's the radio. I never listen to the radio. The last time I even did, by coincidence, "Gold Digger" and "Luxurious" were hits.

The first time I heard of her was on YouTube. 5AwesomeGays' Tyler Oakley has a real thing for her. So I checked out "Poker Face" and turned it off not even 0:50 into it. (And that, Crikan, is why I didn't vote for "Love Her" and why I don't take criticism of her personally).

As someone else said here, I'd much rather listen to Moloko/Roisin Murphy. For pop, it is far more interesting, innovative, and original.

What a coincidence - I just ordered 3 of her CD's yesterday evening. And, yes, her and Moloko are amazing. Almost all of their CD's are out of print now, but Do You Like My Tight Sweater? is still out there. My personal favorite.
