I don't know how accurate it is, but IMDB is listing I Come in Peace (a.k.a. Dark Angel) as a Shout Factory Blu-ray/DVD release for 2013:
"Shout! Factory (2013) (USA) (DVD) (Blu-ray)" It's an MGM owned title, so it would seem very likely as a licensed title.

Well, Cliff did say there were non-horror titles forthcoming, from the 60's on up. One minor masterpiece that desperately needs an upgrade is 1985's Runaway Train, from Cannon. I hope they get to it sooner rather than later.

They need to start a whole Cannon Films collection.

Just watching From Beyond on MGM HD and it's the cut version. I hope SF aren't using this master for the BD

I really doubt they would use the cut version. It's Shout, after all...

Scream Factory just announced on Facebook...
Quote:
Perhaps MGM's rights to the film expired? And if so, who owns Scanners now?

I really hope it isn't stuck in the same hell as Suspiria, but apparently The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films had plans for a remake.

I'd suspect a double-feature. I can't see these two selling as much separately. I'm excited to re-visit them.

Looks like MGM put the kibosh on Shout getting ahold of Scanners. Hmmm, doesn't exactly look good for The Fog and The Howling coming from good ol' Shout.

The Weinstein Company has been in pre-production on a remake for about 5 years, originally with Natalie Portman attached to star, but now with Isabelle Fuhrman attached to star. TWC currently hold the rights to the original film as a result. The new film is supposed to be released in 2013, but as far as I know hasn't begun filmng yet and has been pushed back before. I'm guessing that once the remake is released, we'll see some sort of announcement on a US Blu-Ray release, but in the meantime, we wait.
It is available internationally on Blu-Ray, but with varying degrees of quality, from what I understand. |

I was so excited for this announcement, with all these early '90s guilty pleasures swimming through my head (Blood Games, Bikini Island, Highway To Hell, etc).
Come to find out it's the Scanner sequels. Pffft indeed. Not to mention, I didn't win the "Year Of Fear" Contest. Way to kick a man when he's down, Shout Factory! (I still love you Shout Factory) |
