Scream Factory said in the original announcements for Schizoid, Hospital Massacre, and Godsend that they MIGHT be on Blu-ray depending on the condition of the masters. If the masters they have to work with are pretty rough (ala, American Nightmare) then DVD makes the most sense. Why would they pay for HD mastering when the print wouldn't be up to HD quality?
I'm sure they know most people want Blu if possible, but it has to make economic sense or else why bother? I don't blame them for being careful in this economy. Some people just like to whine.

Honestly, not every movie is equally deserving of being preserved for posterity in a high tech format. And I doubt I'll be buying a copy of every single Scream Factory release. Some of the announcements are wonderful, some of them makes you think, "was that really necessary?" As in: "Is there a market at all for that one?" But hey, I was always one to play favourites and never a completist.

What I was actually saying was along the lines of "LOL! If the Video Dead can receive a Blu Ray release, than these others certainly can." Perception mister. You hush. |

If I recall correctly didn't shout refuse to put several Roger Corman flicks on BR? If I remember the argument was they didn't think they would sell good on BR? They omitted allot of releases like the Sword & Sorcery collection among several horror tittles. So yeah I do agree there really is no excuse for not putting their releases on BR. While there is the argument of "if it doesn't look HD why bother?" I can't agree. Allot of their BR release are far from perfect and don't look HD. So I do understand the desire to see certain films preserved on the BR format.

It's a double-dose of '80s trash, courtesy of Shout's Scream Factory!
In Ted Nicolaou's TERRORVISION (1986), the Putterman's new satellite dish gets reception that's out of this world. Literally. Things get ugly when they beam in an intergalactic spacedog that eats everything in sight, be it food, trash, or family member. Campy, colorful, and completely stupid, this latex-heavy Empire Production is about as decade-centric as it gets, with a great cast including Diane Franklin, Mary Woronov and Gerrit Graham. There's more TV-themed terror in Robert Scott's THE VIDEO DEAD (1987), as an errant delivery lands a supernatural television in the suburbs, where it unleashes a gang of evil dead set on dropping property value. A gory, low-budget, metaphysical zombie flick that's more fun than it has any right to be -- or at least it was when I was 14, which was the last time I watched it. Hope it holds up! Apparently determined to make all horror fans poor, Shout's Scream Factory line continues with Renny Harlin's PRISON (1988)! Thirty years after a wrongful electrocution, budget cuts force Wyoming State Penitentiary to reopen its doors. Breaching the sealed execution chamber, the new inmates release a vengeful, bloodthirsty force and before you know it, population is down due to reanimated barbed-wire antics, possessed pipe impalements, prisoner flambé and more. A pre-stardom Viggo Mortensen appears as a car thief with a mysterious past who potentially knows the connection between this haunted jailhouse and its former warden, and may have a few secrets of his own. One of Empire's best films, PRISON remains a serious, atmospheric, and gruesome time, stylishly directed by Harlin right before he stepped things up with DIE HARD 2. Labeled a Collector's Edition by the company, I imagine this'll have a full slate of supplements. Deservedly so.

Bruce I have to ask you, do you work for any of these guys or get some sort credit for all your advertising? Not saying it isn't appreciated, but it is indeed always in full effect, thread duplicated and plentiful

While I agree there's color push and EE I don't think this was scrubbed all that much. The zoom on the Italian disc isn't radical and just shows they're from different scans. No scan is identical. Specifically when I look at these things I look at hair and fabric. In the Meg Foster close up on Shout's you can perfectly trace stray strands of hair. In the Italian version some are entirely gone or only partially there (even looking like part of the back ground instead of hair because you can't trace it all the way). On Roddy Piper the flannel pattern is very defined on Shout's and small details like the wear on the belt are more distinct. On the Italian they're a little run together and blurry. Flannel patterns are a killer and I would have to see it in motion to make a final decision on that. I think Universal did a fine job here and didn't go anywhere close to being overboard on this. Sure they put on their life jacket so that you might think they're about to jump overboard but they never did. If Army of Darkness was like this I'd be thrilled.
