How awesome is 2011's movie slate so far!?
So earlier this week I did a list of all the movies I am excited about that are coming out this week, and although there are some great pics, it looks like 2011 will be the year to beat!
So far... Cabin in the Woods - Jan. 14 Resident Evil: Afterlife - Jan. 14 Underworld 4 - Jan. 21 The Factory - Jan. 28 Battle: Los Angeles - Feb. 18 Straw Dogs (Remake) - Feb. 25 Suckerpunch - March 25 Spider-Man 4 - May 5 Thor - May 6 Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - May 20 The Hangover 2 - May 20 Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom - June 3 Green Lantern - June 17 Cars 2 - June 24 Transformers 3 - July 4 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II - July 21 The First Avenger: Captain America - July 28 Battleship - July 29 Smurfs - July 29 Jason Bourne 4 - July Marvin the Martian - Oct. 7 Puss in Boots: Story of an Ogre Killer - Nov. 4 James Bond 23 - Nov. 18 Happy Feet 2 - Nov. 18 Hobbit Part 1 - Dec. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn - Dec. 23 Atlantis Rising - Summer Deadpool - TBA X-Men: First Class - TBA X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 - TBA Deadman - TBA Terminator 5 - TBA Mission: Impossible 4 - TBA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - TBA Star Trek 12 - TBA The Man Who Killed Don Quixote - TBA Shady Talez - TBA Ripley's Believe It or Not! - TBA The Bear and the Bow - TBA Mind you some I could care less about like Transformers 3, but that's still a lot of HUGE releases for one year. I can't wait to see what they do with Thor, Green Lantern, and Captain America. And if Spider-Man 4 comes out, hopefully they can make up for the terribly lackluster part 3. I also have faith they will make up for Wolverines first movie with a gritty sequel now that its set in Japan. Anything else coming out? I'm guessing if the sequel to the Friday remake doesn't make it this year it will be out 2011, same with the 3D sequel to Halloween. Last edited by spawningblue; 01-07-2010 at 08:35 PM. |

Dark Horizons reported Spidey 4 has been delayed, though I suppose it could still hit in 2011 sometime. Sounds like Raimi is duking it out with the studio re: the villain.
As for the slate, it does look nice but I'm not too excited about anything particular. |

Yeah Sony is still saying they will make it for their set date. Worries me though as that is the same thing they did with part 3, when they forced Venom into the movie, and we all know how well that turned out.

Spider-Man 4 - May 5
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - May 20 James Bond 23 - Nov. 18 Hobbit Part 1 - Dec. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn - Dec. 23 X-Men: First Class - TBA Terminator 5 - TBA Star Trek 12 - TBA The Man Who Killed Don Quixote - TBA Sounds good to me. SM4 and Hobbit are high on the must see list. But if Terry Gilliam is finally able to take down that windmill of his, I'll be ecstatic. Quote:
On the flip side of that, MGM has confirmed that the next Bond has been postponed until MGM's resold. It's even possible we may get another Bond reboot after that.

As far as the 2011 releases go, I don't care about most of these adaptations, remakes, and sequels. When I start to see footage from the comic book movies, then I'll see if I get interested. At this point I'm only really amped for Spider-Man 4, Hobbit, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Bond. |

But I take it back that Bond was confirmed delayed, but the producer says it will probably be delayed. Now producers don't go around saying stuff like that unless they're relatively certain.

When I begin to pine for films as far away as 2011 then I know that I'm in trouble. We just began 2010 for Pete's sake. Let's take life one step at a time.

I do like the title for Kung Fu Panda - the kaboom of doom has an epically silly ring to it

Meh, nothing on that list really interests me to be quite honest.

Other than Don Quixote and Bond, I have no interest in any of those movies. I must be really getting old. Any possibility that Batman 3 could be out by then?

agreed. There are some I will check out certainly...but nothing there inspires really. Kind of just what I would expect as far as sequels, remakes, and reboots.

Surprised no one is excited for Thor!? Great Director (Kenneth Branagh) and cast (Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Stuart Townsend, Renne Russo, Sam Jackson, ect.) , seems like they know what they are doing. Lord of the Rings combined with super heroes, sounds awesome to me!
Green Lantern should be awesome as well although I'm not impressed with Ryan Reynolds for the lead, this is DCs third biggest franchise and they can;t afford to screw it up. And Martin Campbell is an awesome Director. They also recently just signed on the effects guys from LOTR. Not much is known about Captain America but it sounds like the script is going in the right direction. And then there is Wolverine and X-Men, which like Spider-Man didn't leave on a positive note, but with Wolverine going to japan and realizing the negative fan reaction the first movie got, and Singer back on X-Men I have hopes that they will do them right. As for Mission Impossible 4, I'm a big fan of Cruise and that series hasn't been bad yet so... I'm pumped for it. Oh, and even though not much is known about cabin in the Woods it sounds like it could be the next Cloverfield which I enjoyed. And hopefully Smith's horror film finally comes out in 2011 as well as it could be fun as well. Snyder never seems to let me down either so I'm sure Suckerpunch will be one to look forward to. |
