Full Moon Classics

Ok so I'd imagine that when people think of the studio Full Moon that the first thing that comes to mind is the Puppet Master movies. The next might be the Subspecies movies. The other night I managed to sit down and watch Head of the Family and had a blast with it. The acting was above what I was expecting, the characters were somewhat interesting and Myron was a rather interesting villain. The effects where decent and I pretty much had fun all the way through.

Personally I think it's a classic Full Moon movie in the same way that Puppet Master is. I was wondering what you guys consider that other classic Full Moon released movies are? I know that some of their films are pretty much garbage as I found out with Killjoy 1 and 2 so I'm interested to see what other people think.

As far as Full Moon's "classics" it's debatable from person to person. These are my favorites, and what I would consider "personal classics" ...at least as far as those that have elements of that classic early FM formula:

Arcade
Bad Channels
Castle Freak
Demonic Toys
Dollman
Doctor Mordrid
Meridian: Kiss of the Beast
The Pit & the Pendulum
Puppet Master 1-5
Subspecies 1-4
Trancers 1-5

I even like "Netherworld" quite a bit, even though it's quite disliked.

Castel Freak is a title I hear mentioned a lot. Stuart Gordon has made some decent films and I rather enjoy his work. I'm also interested in checking out Demonic Toys.

Dark Angel: The Ascent is an often overlooked effort from Full Moon and I consider it to be one of their very best. Also Blood Dolls is one of the their better more recent efforts.

I've been meaning to check out Lurking Fear, I saw a trailer for that and it looks pretty cool. Hard to go wrong with Jeffery Combs.

I couldn't find much on Dark Angel but I watched the trailers for Blood Dolls and The Lurking Fear and they look pretty decent. Lurking Fear especially. Jeffrey Combs and Ashley Laurence in the same movie!

I agree about DARK ANGEL,one of their more interesting films.Apart from some spotty acting it's rather good.

LURKING FEAR is a (VERY) loose adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft tale.Watchable but not great in my opinion.Combs has a decent sized supporting role.

Stuart Gordon's PIT AND THE PENDULUM and CASTLE FREAK have some good elements (and lots of gore).

Yeah, it's watchable, but a rather poor Lovecraft adaptation overall. Ashley Laurence won't even admit to appearing in the film to this day.

Does anyone collect the old Full Moon CD Soundtracks? I have just about all of them now.

Agreed,it's a time killer, that's about it.A faithful adaptation of that story could be fantastic.

I only have a few. Subspecies and a CD with Doctor Mordrid and Demonic Toys on one disc. (And also the Moonstone release of Quiet Riot's Terrified). I may have Bad Channels, but I'm not sure.

Do you know how many were released?

Hemoglobin (aka Bleeders) is pretty good, and loosely based on the story. Co-written by Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett (of Alien fame)

Dark Heritage: The Final Descendant is admirable as a very low budget film, and again loosely based on the Lovecraft story.

I'd have to count them, but these are the ones I can think of off hand:

Bad Channels
Doctor Mordrid
Meridian
The Pit & The Pendulum
Puppet Master 1 & II CD
Robot Wars
Shrunken Heads
Subspecies

I'm sure there's probably a few others. And then Intrada later released a few like Castle Freak and Crash and Burn.

Do you consider Intruder a Full Moon slasher? Because that one confuses me. Advertising, yet Wizard Ent. on the DVD. Hmm...

Personally, aside from a few, it's hard to look at Troma or Full Moon or ones like them as classic-makers, cuz generally...even the best are mediocre.

Yes but they have their own types of classic films. Not one expects top quality stuff from them.

Not really, the film pre-dated Full Moon by a couple of years and doesn't really follow the Full Moon formula too much.
