Question Spirit Camp (Cheerleader Slasher)

http://www.spiritcampmovie.com/HOME.html
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1078933/

Has anyone seen this one yet? The trailer has me intrigued. It looks to be a self-released indie DVD release, so the options of where exactly to rent/buy the film are limited.

If you order the special edition, you get an autographed pair of panties! Great stuff!

Awesome! It has me intrigued. Looks like it has some aspects that Cheerleader Camp should have had.

Dunno. They don't even show one cheer or dance in the Trailer. No sizzling Pom-Pom action, no sale for me

I went ahead and ordered this from Amazon for $19.95. They list it for $24.49 (and out of stock), but if you check the marketplace you can grab it nearly $5 cheaper and it's fulfilled by Amazon.

It'll be here on Thursday via free prime shipping. I'll let you guys know how it is...

But it's $17.99 on the movies website. The $29.95 price is for the DVD with the signed panties.

Yes, but you have to pay shipping there too. I'll have it in my hands in just 2 days from Amazon for free. It's the same seller (Kerosene Films) on there as the website.

A couple weeks ago it was recommended to me by Amazon and the cover art caught my eye. I've been debating on whether to pick it up since. I'm never comfortable blind buying a DVD for $20 despite finding some gems recently (Run Bitch Run and Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet).

I'll be very interested in hearing how good (or bad) this film is. Looking forward to hearing about it katatonia.

It's a really fun little movie, and I had a good time with it. There are several memorable roles and scenes. It's unabashedly horror/comedy, so keep that in mind. It did remind me a little of Cheerleader Camp and the Sleepaway Camp sequels in it's style, but it's definitely a modern film.

The actresses are attractive and there are a couple of topless shots, and general T&A eye candy peppered throughout the film. If you're only looking for a ton of gore, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. There's definitely blood and some gore to be found here, but this is very much in the 80's mainstream horror style in that respect.

Kerry Beyer Directed, Produced, Wrote, handled the Cinematography, Edited, Composed the Music, Sound Design, designed the Cheerleader outfits, Visual Effects, and did co-Make-up Effects. That may sound like a lot for one guy, but it doesn't cheapen the film at all and he did an admirable job with each of those...and you can tell he really took his time to get them right. He also had an acting role (not his first) in the film. Apparently all of that took 2-3 years before the film was refined for release.

The DVD has nice animated menus, a solid 16x9 widescreen transfer (Progressive encoded!) and a 5.1 audio mix. There's an 11-minute Featurette (16x9 enhanced) which much of the cast appears in. The original Trailer is included (also 16x9 enhanced). The last DVD bonus is the audio commentary, which features Kerry Beyer and co-Producer John Lansch. It's quite entertaining, and if you enjoy listening in on the tribulations of low-budget filmmaking it's a blast.

I would heartily recommend this one. I'm not going to guarantee that you'll love it, but unless you're braindead you'll have a good time. It's just a little unfortunate that the DVD is not out there for rental, and thus will have a smaller audience.

Thanks for the review katatonia. I indeed really like the sleepaway camp sequels (but I didn't like cheerleader camp). I am really torn on this one, I wish I could rent it.
