I love most of the slasher flicks from the 80's, and I thought Spirit Camp really had that 80's feel. It was actually far better than I thought it would be!

If you like slashers and exploitation films... you'll like this one!

msw7, have you watched it yet?

anybody else checked this out?? Really interested in hearing other opinions.

When I was looking at the Amazon reviews (which were all pretty good, but there were only four reviews plus the director..gee wonder if he liked it) I also saw a movie called "Spring Break Massacre" that had a cover and plot very similar to slumber party massacre. It kinda looked interesting. Had Reggie Bannister and Linea Quigley in it. It comes out later this month but I believe it was made in 2008 (i have no idea if it was released earlier or not). I hate to do blind buys on these kind of movies because I have gotten a few gems over the years, but I also had too many clunkers that I ended up wasting $17-$20 on and that sux.

Yes - I did watch it. I was pleasantly surprised. It started a little slow (and I had some reservations for the first few minutes...), but it was solidly entertaining, with a fair number of laugh out loud moments. It's not scary at all, but the gore/blood was well done, and the intensity does pick up, particularly for the last 20 minutes or so, which were passably intense.

So I would recommend it - it is very entertaining.

Cool, glad to hear that you enjoyed it also. The film definitely has its faults, but this is one I would definitely watch again.

Did you listen to the audio commentary msw? It was quite entertaining and informative.

After 3 years of waiting for a decent price I finally caved and paid the $18 for SPIRIT CAMP. Katatonia's review nailed it. I was really surprised by the production values. It's hard to recommend at $18 but its certainly worth your time.

whoops, didn't see this question before... and three years later I still have not listened to the commentary. I guess it's time to revisit this one

I saw it maybe a year or two ago and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Definitely one of the better indie-slashers of recent memory.

I've sprung for a few of the self-distributed slasher flicks over the past few years (Blood Night, The Sleeper, etc), and Spirit Camp and Red Velvet are by far the best. If you are a slasher fan, I'd say it's worth the $18.

I'd also recommend All About Evil, but I saw that for free on Chiller. The DVD is a bit expensive.

I'm tempted to pick this one up on dvd - just not sure at 17 bucks though- even though at least its going towards a decent indie effort. Hmmmmmm

I'd really love to see that one, but yeah... they want $30 + shipping for the DVD. Screw that! I could just get the uncut German Blu-ray cheaper, but I think it lacks the bonus features.

A very entertaining and solid indie slasher flick. The killer is cool, the kills aren't overly graphic and blood but work, there's enough nudity and the final girl was fantastic. Really liked her.

Enjoyed it just as much as President's Day.

Now there's a blind buy price I can deal with!

Anyone ever check out SPRING BREAK MASSACRE? Worth checking out?

It's pretty fun, but not as much fun as Spirit Camp.

There was a thread on here about it, and the director of the film made a few replies. He later co-directed Girls Gone Dead.
