Anybody download HD rips? (Of films that have NOT come out on blu-ray yet)
Alright, so a friend has gotten me into downloading HD films lately, and I came across a site that may be of interest to some people here. There is some AMAZING shit going on at this site, stuff I never thought existed in HD.
http://www.cinemahd.net/category/mov...ic-collection/ Those are just their classic films. There are some films there that have already come out on blu-ray, but the interesting stuff are the films that are there in HD (some in 1080p, like Singin' in the Rain and Judgment at Nuremberg). I managed to get Jaws, Jaws 2, Rosemary's Baby and The Conversation (among many others not yet out on the format) and some Hitchcock like Dial M for Murder, Rear Window and The Birds. It's crazy, The Conversation has clearly been completely restored. I directly compared it to the DVD. There's more image on all 4 sides of the frames, it's sharper (especially close-ups) and the entire color pallete of the film is a lot more natural-looking (the DVD looks reddish). I suspect Paramount will be releasing this soon, because it's clearly been restored. I heard there are HD rips of some of the Friday the 13th sequels, mainly parts 4, 5 and 6. Anybody know where to get these? This is amazing, these mkv files have amazing compression. The Conversation is only 4.6 GB and it blows the DVD out of the water. *EDIT: you need a rapidshare account to get these, otherwise you can only download one file every hour or so (some films are like 46 files). ~Matt

I caught Ski School in HD on cable and found that it contained scenes not on the crappy 4x3 DVD. I'd love to get a rip of that.

Yeah I'm just shocked at how amazing mkv files are. I got West Side Story in HD, the file is only 2.10 GB and it looks incredible. Blows the DVD away. It's like night and day between the two.
Oh and crikan, is this the film you're looking for? The links are all active, so this one is ready to go. But yeah, I've been trying to find the HD rip of From Beyond, but can't seem to find it anywhere, along with the Friday the 13th sequels. Sucks because they would look great in HD. ~Matt

I'm a big fan because we got one of these for Christmas:
![]() It's a media server that plays flawless HD, plus it's got a 1TB hard drive thrown in there as well. Oh man, the movies I have on there... Anyway, thanks so much for linking that site! I get some stuff from Cinemageddon, rips of Galaxina, Malibu Bikini Shop, Circle of Iron and others are on there. Plus Easynews, which is great for newer stuff. I found 720p rips of Friday 4 and 5 via Easynews and they were nice, but I ended up misplacing them before I could compare them to the DVDs. I think I deleted them accidentally, crap. |

Shit, I was about to PM you about this but went and checked mine out and it's seriously downgraded. Not anamorphic and 2.0 sound, I'm guessing the real dvd looks better. Let me know if you ever find a true HD rip. |

I've been wondering about this, I don't really know a whole lot about this stuff. But it looks like most of these rips are about 4GB give or take. A single layered DVD is 4.7GB.
If the files are approximately the same size as the movie on a DVD, why would the HD rips look better? |

But about the compression, I believe Regurgitate summed it up perfectly. I wondered the same thing, until I looked at the specs of some of these files. West Side Story is 2.18 GB and looks amazing. The DVD is roughly 4 and looks like crap in comparison. The HD rip has better colors, sharpness, etc. (there was a rip of West Side Story that was 7.75 GB, but it was dead. I wonder how much better that would look). But just think...the DVD files of Jaws is roughly 4 GB, and the HD rip I have is 6GB. Looks amazing, even for 720p. There's quite a difference. I found one of The Howling, which looks pretty fucking awesome too. But for those of you who do have rapidshare accounts (or the equivalent: megaupload, etc), the best way of finding these files is by going to google and typing the title of the film you want (the year if necessary), then typing 720p (or 1080p sometimes, as there are beautiful 1080p rips of Singin in the Rain and To Catch a Thief) and then in quotations, type rapidshare.com/files. I've found this to be the easiest way of finding HD rips of films. So basically you type something like: The Howling 1981 720p "rapidshare.com/files" and hit enter. I'm sure many of you know about this (I find it the best way of searching for EXACTLY what you want) but for those of you who don't, there you go... ~Matt

Question guys:
Does one need to be sent an invitation to join a rapidshare website? Also, can someone stream a movie file like this to their tv via a PS3 or xbox360?

I have Friday 4-8 that aired on Monsters HD. They are 12-14gb each and are MPEG-2. Never compared them directly to the DVDs. I scored some other good stuff, too. I have Subspecies 1-3 that was on Monsters HD, Howling (1080i from MGM HD), Dragonslayer.
I converted some to HD-DVD (using DVD DL) - Waxwork HD, Night of the Comet HD, and a handful of others. |

Oh well, the hunt continues. Damn MGM. Why the hell would they cut nude scenes from the DVD release of a Rated R film that they allow to be uncut for cable. Let's hope they don't bungle a future blu-ray release. I did find a better copy of Bikini Carwash Company II. My VHS is worn and there has never been a DVD release. |
