August Underground with a budget. Aesthetically, it is a well done film. Each shot is beautiful and polished for sure. However, without the subject matter, there would be no film. It uses many Freudian themes and tries to be deep, but I found the whole experience empty, pointless and pretentious. The character's "decent" was not very well portrayed at all and only served as a vehicle for "shocking" scenes... It was silly, and the "director" character was an over the top Human Centipede doctor reject (at least that film knew what it was).

The skull fucking/ Newborn porn stuff was schlocky (although it made me chuckle a bit). The film was essentially a confused mess.

The film would have worked better as a full blown psychological character study (which it tried and failed to do). For instance; him being aroused by the image of a child while getting head was indeed disturbing and asks some pretty scary questions about the character and human nature in general. Had they gone that route and used more subtlety, opting for just one or two gross outs, it may have made the film more effective (Irreversible comes to mind). Sometimes one or two events can be more disturbing than if a myriad of gore is thrown at you "Braindead" style. The fact is that the film turns cheap, but still tries to be serious.

Sometimes less is more.

...but we can agree to disagree.

A company called Zeno Pictures is putting out the uncut version, dutch subtitles only. I pulled the trigger on it because I haven't been able to get my hands on the Cinematic Vision version. Anyone hear anything on this one?

The movie is available as an uncut BluRay (in embossed slipcase) or DVD or Mediabook (Bluray+DVD) is Germany/Austria. The unrated Blu runs 103:39 minutes and it's 2,40:1 (1080p). It has German and Serbian audio and only German subtitles, no English. It's a professional quality realease by ContraFilm. But you won't find it in common online shops because it was released without any kind of rating.

I echo what NaturesMistake says about this film, its a high budget August Underground movie; it's nothing new or original, and the bulk of it's notoriety rides on hype, much like something like the Human Centipede, the whole trend is getting really tired imo, the "Banned in ____ Countries!", the blood-splattered "UNRATED" the 'so bad we had to bind it up!' cover art. Yawn. There isn't anything in this film we havn't seen before in Salo, Necromantik, Guinee Pig or other gross-out classics from 10, 20, 30+ years ago. And any scenes that do try to 'push the limits' are bogged down by laughably bad prosthetics. Agreed NaturesMistake, less is more indeed, it just tries too hard.

DVD edition announced:
Quote:
Invincible Pictures, which previously issued the movie in slightly trimmed form, let Fango know that it will make the uncensored version available via its FlixFling digital service May 1, with a limited-edition DVD released May 22.

Pre-order information for the DVD should be available at the Invincible Pictures store on Monday, April 16.

I'm thinking it's too little too late for most people.

I found out something kind of interesting over the weekend. I went to Flashback weekend in Chicago where Synapse had a table there and was talking to one of the guys there. I was asking him about the Intruder Blu-ray with the DVD work print that was limited to 500, he was telling me it was completely gone and even he didn't have a copy but to watch his web site because they have something similar and limited coming up.

I tried pumping him for hints and he wouldn't give me any. I noticed that he was selling there "Life and death of a porno gang" and we got to talking about that, told him I wasn't interested because they actually kill an animal in but I love "A Serbian Film".

It was then when I put 2 and 2 together and said you’re going to be putting out "A Serbian Film" aren't you?

Then his whole deminer changed and he said you better not put any of this on any fucking websites or message boards.

My educated guess is that Synapse will be putting this out on a limited uncut blu ray.

Take it for what its worth but makes sense to me, i heard there where rights issues with uncut hi-def version and and such so to do it in a limited way might be a way around this.

He also told me that there still working on getting a way to distribute the "lost" Halloween footage :-)

There we go, good info. How far off do you think Synapse is from releasing those Guinea Pig crazy flicks?

Don May Jr. said something similar about a few other titles at last year's Flashback Weekend to me. A year later and there's till no peep about them. So I'd take anything he said like that with a grain of salt. There's a reason why they haven't formally announced those things.
