Unnecessary 2-Disc Releases

Ice from the Sun (1999)

Image Entertainment gave this Sub Rosa (!) release the royal treatment. But why? The movie is awful and was unheard of for me until 5 years ago.

Raiders of the Living Dead (1985)

I love discovering obscure 80s movies, but this one was a pain to watch. Yet Elite made it out to be some long lost cult film and included 2-discs.

Are there any you can think of? And no, I don't mean overblown big budget Hollywood releases

Mondo Crash's HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB, whose second disc featured a completely gratuitous "American cut" that was really just a hacked down TV version of the longer European cuts found on disc one.

Army Of Darkness (Anchor Bay/Universal 2-Disc release): The Director's Cut was in bad quality. It's better just getting the Theatrical Version individually (both the Anchor Bay/Universal release and Universal's Screwhead Edition) and the R3 Hong Kong MGM Director's Cut disc since that is 10 times better than what Anchor Bay offered (sorry AB).

Seriously, people like that movie? I thought it was eerie but also really terrible. I'm not sure what special features would prop that up, unless the other disc had 'House by the Cemetery' on it or something.

Devil Dog: Hound of Hell

while I appreciate the effort shriek show put into collecting the interviews (hours of them) that went onto the second disc, the movie is such a waste of time, one feels that their time would have been better spent elsewhere. Also, why not just take all those talking heads and condense them into an edited commentary? I dunno. I shouldn't bitch. The movie's such a stinker, its the extras alone that make it worth owning. So now I take it back! Thank you shriek show, for making me not feel like I wasted my money by picking up your devil dog disc!

I'm not a fan of studios releasing limited editions of discs by including some 30 minute featurette on a bonus second disc when there was more than enough room to include it on the main disc. Examples: Bad Taste, Two Evil Eyes, The Final Countdown. There must be several others. Sorry Blue Underground, you know I love you, but you do like to do this.

Troma's upcoming "There's Nothing Out There" 2-disc SE. I like the movie but the original disc had more extras than you'd ever expect for a title like this. I can't imagine Troma will improve on anything.

Actually, my biggest problem with this kind of thing - smaller companies doing 2-Disc sets to show off - is that the 2nd disc always comes FREAKING LOOSE in the case and I already spent $17-20+ on the set (Hardware, Just Before Dawn) and waited weeks for it to show up. This so rarely happens with sets from Warner, Paramount, etc. Cheap cases...
